By Chicago Standards, Blagojevich Isn't Crazy
Chicago Tribune ^ | 12/11/08 | John Kass

Posted on 12/11/2008 9:29:46 AM PST by lewisglad

Again, is Blago some blithering maniac ready for a padded cell?

Of course not.

But one thing is clear: The pundits who make such diagnoses have never talked to a Chicago machine politician in their lives.

How do they think Chicago politicians talk in private when they're muscling some other guy for cash? Like Helen Mirren playing the queen?

Now, with federal investigators interviewing everyone in the case, it's time to assess the mental health of our political leaders.

The good news is that Obama isn't cuckoo either.

He was severely delusional, though, for a day, trying to avoid saying anything about Gov. Dead Meat. But he came to his senses and called upon Blagojevich to resign.

He bravely sent out a spokesman to declare, "Under the current circumstances, it is difficult for the governor to do his job and serve the people of Illinois."

Translation: Will no one rid us of this accursed madman?

Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago, the boss who runs the machine that he says doesn't exist, refused to take a position either way. That's because he's sane.

The governor isn't the only one in this mess. His chief of staff, John Harris, also was arrested. Before Harris worked for Dead Meat, he worked for Mayor Shortshanks at Chicago's political golden goose: O'Hare International Airport.

Blagojevich "has to figure out what's best for him and his family, and the State of Illinois," the mayor said. "He will have to do the right thing."

Ah, the right thing. When Harris spills—and he will, because he's not crazy either—Daley doesn't want Harris to spill on him. He wants guys to do the "right thing," which, if I may translate, means to keep their traps shut.

They are putting it all on Blago. Poor fool. If he had been black like Obama or named Daley he would have been given a free pass. The Media is spinning this so it is ALL Blago and Obama is clean and pure. Sickening propaganda.

Come on Fitz - have the guts to indict Obama, Emmanuel and Jesse Jr.

He owns the jail. Doesn't matter if he's in it or out of it.

As I've been saying all these people are criminals. What they say in public doesn't mean what you think it means.

As I instructed earlier 501(c)4 means C4 which means explosives which means William Ayers ~ or some other crazy bomber like him ~ and yes, Ayers is crazy, but, for a Chicago politician, guys like him have their uses.

This is going to end poorly. Too many guys with money and guns are being exposed. Just a matter of time till they realize the money isn’t working so they switch to guns.

Has Nancy Pelosi issued her sanctimonious Culture of Corruption™ declaration yet or is that only reserved for Republicans?

"He will have to do the right thing."

Exact same advice that Frankie Pentangeli got.

This ‘crazy’ stuff is simply the ‘male version’ of Carvelle’s “”Drag $100 bills through trailer parks, there’s no telling what you’ll find.”

Blagojago isn't crazy, he's being set up for induced suicide just in case he doesn't “Do the right thing”.
Probably be a double, husband and wife since she supported his actions.
Fammie Malik, call your office.

No, the crazy ones are Illinois voters who reelected him. Is it something in the water?

OBAMA: Rest assured, Governor Blagojevich, that either your signature or your brains will be on this piece of paper before I leave this room.

“Exact same advice that Frankie Pentangeli got.”

The exact same thing came to my mind.
Expecting the Hair Club Gov to miraculously disappear very soon.

You mean Chicago isn't a gun-free zone?

Pretty good article but oh, how I wish Mike Royko were still alive to write about this. Now THAT would be some good reading!

The plot thickens.

If Blago spilled the beans to avoid a long prison sentence along with Tony Rezko we may be in for some very interesting times here in Chitown.

The possible involvement of Jesse Jackson jr. in the “pay for play” Senate seat auction is explosive. I did not realize how carefully parsed Mr. Jackson’s statement was until I read the Jon Kass article. Mr. Jackson did not explicitly deny that one of his underlings may have conveyed the offer to Blago.

The corruption hairball in Chicago is being unwound. I can’t wait.

Kass’ point about Ohare Airport is vary much on point. There was a proposal to build a second airport in the Chicago area rather than expand at Ohare that was killed by Mayor Daley and his brother who was Clinton’s Commerce Secretary. They are now moving graveyards at astronomical prices in Elmhurst rather than building a second airport with cheap land in Will County. Such is the price of corruption to the public.
