Perino bruised in shoe-hurling melee (Subby is here for you, my darling)

White House Press Secretary Dana Perino was slightly bruised in the aftermath of the shoe-throwing melee at President Bush's news conference at the Prime Minister's Palace in Baghdad on Sunday, a senior administration official said.

But Perino will be fine and is continuing with the presidential party, the official said.

Perino was hit in the face with a microphone as security wrestled with the reporter, NBC News reported.

The White House transcript from the news conference labels the incident an "audience interruption."

President Bush said. "Okay, everybody calm down for a minute."

Then, indicating Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, the president continued: "First of all, thank you for apologizing on behalf of the Iraqi people. It doesn't bother me. And if you want some — if you want the facts, it's a size 10 shoe that he threw. (Laughter.) Thank you for your concern, do not worry about it."

The president then brushed off a question from a reporter who was asking about the greater meaning of the fracas.

"So what if a guy threw a shoe at me?" Bush asked.

It's ironic that the president would be pummeled in such a controlled setting, when the White House took elaborate, James-Bond-like precautions to ensure he landed in secret.

Air Force One left the Washington area on Saturday night, and Bush and his aides are scheduled to return Monday. His presence in Iraq was not reported until Sunday morning Eastern time.

Matthews didn't throw the shoe but he did have an eerie feeling run up his leg. Larry the Lip couldn't have done it as he is still in that Mental Institution.

“I doubt there was a sign on the door saying shirt and shoes required. It was not a restaurant they were in.”

I was being petulant. Guess it missed the mark. But I have a corrupted sense de humour.

This “reporter” would never have thrown a shoe at Saddam because he was one of Saddam’s supporters. He was a Baathist. Take a look at the bottom of this article: http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/12/15/africa/15iraq-thrower.php

The fact that he can throw a shoe an NOT end up in a plastic shredder speaks more to the freedoms Iraqi’s enjoy now more than anything else.

I'm with ya on that! No one seemed to react. I'm just as pissed off at our people for not protecting the President, as I am with the scum that threw the shoes!

It’s a good thing the perp didn’t know about the (Red Wings’?) tradition of throwing squid on the ice for good luck!

Seriously, how could it be known that the show didn’t contain something caustic or explosive??

I had the same question. Don't the ungrateful leftists in that part of the world love to put surprises in their shoes?

Makes me wonder if they patted down these so called reporters before they came in

Of course. This is why he had only shoes to throw.

It is only a photoshop depiction of the real perps inner spirit. The "real" journalist looked like a "normal" angry guy that suffers from BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome).

Thank you for expressing my sentiments. I wish President Bush would have picked up the shoe and thrown it back at the ingrate. And, since “our friend” Iraq Pres Maliki didn’t look too upset or concerned, he should have been bopped with the second shoe.

And, where were the Secret Service???? What if it was a weapon a lot more dangerous than a shoe?? And, I agree, this was not expressing free speech, it was an act of violence and should be treated that way. If this was done to Maliki in the U.S., the person would be in jail for a long time.

How disgraceful that the Iraqi people are supporting this low life. They are free thanks to President Bush and our military, their daughters can go to school, they’re not put in a shredder if they lose a soccer game.........INGRATES!!!!!

Security should always keep a special eye on people who look like the Tazmanian Devil.

This guy will be Queef Olberboy’s “best person in the world”. Way to stay classy, Queef.

Yah, good one!! Would have been great to see Dubya pound the bastiges, first the "reporter" then Malicky.

Too bad Bush doesn't believe in defending himself.

He was the one that said, "I'll give you 5 bucks if you throw your shoes at Bush."
