Gives him the flexibility to negotiate with all sides and get the best possible deal.

there is NO exchange of actual money. conspiracy is a weak defense.
He will have a defense that there was nothing wrong and everyone already does this out in the open,especially when he asked for money for his campaign financing.Even Hillary asked for help with her campaign financing from Obama, very publicly. contributing to public financing has a whole different set of “rules” than just getting a bag of money directly.
As to all his talk about money and dollar figures, he can blow that off as “bragging or just words”.
Then there is the historical precedent of key campaign contributors, aka Joseph Kennedy, etc, getting nominated for being an international ambassador.
Fitsgerald ( hated that unethical sob when he took down Libby for nothing when he knew the truth) has already tainted any jury pool and was unethical in his press comments about Blago.
