They left off some taxes. Here in New York, my property taxes on a $130,000 house (local taxes + school taxes) is about $5,000 a year. Our local sales taxes are 4.75% giving us a total sales tax rate of 8.75%. Take that, Connecticut!

MD has a crazy county income tax piggybacked on the state income tax. Not sure if it's included above.

That’s obscene. New Jersey is the same way. They soak you so much in property tax that you’re almost paying in tax what you’d be paying in rent in many states - so what’s the point of owning a home at all?
