True on the moose, but you get some mighty good hog hunting there abouts.
ONe of my brothers lives in ROund Rock area the other in the (Eeeuuuu) DFW area.
I have spent a lot of time in TX, but still, on the whole Ak is bigger and better. Lots of nice folk in TX tho and killer BBQ/briskit.
Start early, and take the longest bus ride available. The park Shuttle buses are the same ride as the much more expensive tour buses. http://www.nps.gov/dena/planyourvisit/bus-reservations.htm
Eat the Blueberry Pancakes for Breakfast at the Salmon Bake. Its a tourist trap, but so what.
Go to the sled dog kennel and exhibition in the Park. Different than the racing sled dogs. After a day of rest, go on the south side and then take the Truck ride at: http://www.denalisights.com/
Jeff King's Sled Dog “training camp” is nearby if you want to see and overpriced but entertaining info on the Iditarod.

There is also some good white water rafting on the Nenana. Tame stuff where you just enjoy the ride or work a bit paddling on some rougher stuff.

On the way out, go to Talkeetna Moose Dropping Festival (July 11 and 12, 2009). Go on Mahay's Jet Boat Devil's Canyon tour. http://www.mahaysriverboat.com/denalialaska-mahay.com/dct.htm
Make reservations for every night and major activity well in advance. Remember that it doesn't get dark at night. You may need sleeping pills or at least eye shades.
Bring a camera with at least a 10x optical zoom. If you don't have that much of a camera, buy one first. The wildlife shots you will miss with a 3x you will regret for the rest of your life.
