Why did Michelle Obama lie and say his mother was very young and very single when she had him?

Michelle O’s quote from that article:
His own mother, she said at the beginning of her remarks, was “very young and very single when she had him.”
Regardless of the timing of the marraige, in the end, we have a man who is obviously born and raised with divided loyalties.
Maybe he married her and never acted like a husband.
But “very single” is not accurate either.
I am very shocked an Obama lied to make themself look better. (that was sarcasm)
Trial balloon to get rid of the inconvenient paternal "British subject at birth" problem? The marriage appears to have been in name only. I don't think I've ever seen a photo of the two together. No evidence that they ever resided together, in HI or elsewhere.

Being the son of a foreigner complicates things, since the married mother couldn’t “technically” pass on citizenship due to her age.
