Barack Obama suggested he's not likely to actively pursue criminal charges against national security officials who were directly involved in unlawful interrogations or wire-tapping, and said it would be difficult to quickly close down Guantanamo Bay.
On Guantanamo which he repeatedly promised to shutter during the campaign Obama, in an interview on Sunday with George Stephanopoulos on ABC's "This Week," reiterated his intent to do just that but also sounded a pragmatic note.
"That's a challenge," the president-elect said about the prospect of closing down to the detainee facility within the first 100 days of taking office. "I think it's going to take some time and our legal teams are working in consultation with our national security apparatus as we speak to help design exactly what we need to do.

I thought all of the euro nations were lining up to take these guys in-what happened?
To: mrmargaritaville
It’s easier for them to cry foul than putting their Euros where their anti-American mouths are.

O-Vomit wanted to close Gitmo and send all of the terrorists out into the wild while on BUSH’S watch so he could blame their inevitable acts of violence on BUSH. Now Bam-bam wants to keep them safely tucked away because he knows what will happen on HIS watch.
Bush needs to let them all go on January 19th and see how the messiah handles their carnage.

Nobody wants Gitmo closed except the Obamanoid moonbeamers. If it closes, the authorities will have to deal with these dead-end cutthroats and that's the last thing anyone wants to have to do. As long as Bush was in charge all the eurotrash and Obamanoid 'ratsh*t knew they were safe and could kibbitz freely without having to worry that anything would actually happen. Now the wonderboy has to backpeddle as fast as his little feet will carry him. Simple fart really is the dog who chased the car and caught it.

Boy, these guys at Politico are real hard-working journalists. They make their living by watching TV and then posting their observations on the internet.
Where's my check?

Bush is already trying to get Poland and Australia to take some of these scumbags, but I think Obama is smart enough to just follow W’s lead. I doubt he’ll do anything dramatic like quickly closing down Gitmo. The last thing he wants is for one these lowlifes to be caught killing a few thousand more Americans after he let him go. I think Obama will make a lot of speeches about solving the problem and he’ll make some symbolic moves to try to appease the looney left. For the most part, though, Obama will keep W’s policies in effect when it comes to wiretaps, drones in Pakistan and other anti-terrorist moves.
