I like the show with 2 exceptions.
1....the rebirth of Tony. That usually means ‘running out of new ideas’.
2....domestic terrorists. Why not have a good old fashioned Islamic terrorist organization? Fear?? yes
Oh, and Jeanine Garafalo.. what a terrible casting (unless she’s a turncoat)
That's all I want to say for now. I don't want to be too much of a spoiler but it will get quite interesting.
As far as Tony coming back they seemed to deal with it well by having him caught in the first episode. He might not be in the later ones at all unless Jack needs someone to torture information out of again.
the whole not dead thing has been a staple of 24. Nina, not dead....now finally dead, but it took three freakin’ seasons. Jack, not dead. The bad guy from season three was someone Jack “saw die.” So the whole Tony thing isn’t the far out there. Plus they were in serious hot water by their dispatch of Tony in season five, fans were outraged and Joel what’s his name admitted in a radio interview that they botched his death.
This is their seventh season, and three out of the last six season Islamic terrorism was the threat. They do have to shake it up a bit.
Because Jack Bauer is a fictional character on the fictional TV show 24; good old fashioned Islamic terrorists are REAL. (/sarc)
Probably because it is overdone. Islamic terrorists were part of the plots for seasons 2, 4 and 6. While Islamic terrorism is a timely subject in reality, basing a show on it over and over again makes for boring TV. Come to think of it, the first 2/3 of season 6 was basically a rehash of season 2.
>> 1....the rebirth of Tony. That usually means running out of new ideas.
There are dozens of people (even popular characters) that have died on this show, and stayed dead ... Michelle Dessler, Terri Bauer, Nina Meyers, David Palmer, Sherry Palmer, George Mason, Ryan Chappelle, Milo Pressman, Curtis Manning, Edgar Stiles ... and on, and on ... the show is a bloodbath. It isn’t as if they’re bringing someone back from the dead every few weeks, or every popular character back.
I like that they brought him back as a villain ... its a cool twist on the standard “he’s alive!” show. They haven’t fully explained Tony’s death and return. I’ll wait for the full explanation before judging whether it was well done.
>> 2....domestic terrorists. Why not have a good old fashioned Islamic terrorist organization? Fear?? yes
Honestly — its because Islamic terrorists have been done to death. They wanted something new, something fresh — not the same old Islamic plot stuff.
>> Oh, and Jeanine Garafalo.. what a terrible casting (unless shes a turncoat)
Yeah ... I could’ve done without her. But, she wasn’t horrible. She seems like a Chloe knock-off ... a weird, slightly cranky, slightly annoying, analyst.
Nah, they usually alternate seasons between Islamic terrorists and domestic / other. Last season had all those nukes going off set by radical Muslims.
1st Season - Domestic terrorists / Serbians
2nd Season - Islamic terrorists
3rd Season - Mexican drug cartel / former MI6 agent
4th Season - Islamic terrorists
5th Season - Russian-separatists / Gov't conspiracy
6th Season - Islamic terrorists
7th Season - Tony A. / ???
So, following this, we can expect Season 8 to have as its bad guys... Islamic terrorists
The one idea I would like them explore is going after groups such as ELF - Earth Liberation Front. That would cause many libs heads to explode.
As I remember, they 'killed' Tony off because he was having a serious drug problem in real life - looks like may he's got his sh*t together again and they're giving him a chance to get back on his feet -
