Obama Will Get His Blackberry

President Barack Obama is going to get his blackberry.

On Monday, a government agency that the Obama administration -- but that is probably the National Security Agency -- added to a standard blackberry a super-encryption package.... and Obama WILL be able to use it ... still for routine and personal messages.

It's not clear whether he yet has the device.

With few exceptions, government Blackberries aren't designed for encryption that protects messages above the "SECRET" status, so it's not clear whether Obama is getting something new and special. The exception: the Sectera Edge from General Dynamics, which allows for TOP SECRET voice conversations.

I hope he doesn’t lose it in the gym, or scratch his secret password into the cover.

How much did we pay for this super-encryption package so this crybaby could keep his toy? He should pay for it out of his own pocket since it's for PERSONAL use.

So, does this mean his blackberry emails/messages, etc. are game for the freedom of information act?

Maybe he needs the Blackberry to send text messages to his girlfriend.

Since so much information has been revealed about it, we can be sure every foreign intelligence service is now working to hack it. So much for national security in the Era of the Oneness of the One!

I don’t believe this.

Its not about ‘security of the emails’.

Its about the fact a blackberry can be TRACKED to within 30 inches by anyone with a bit of knowledge.

Its no different than the GPS system in a vehicle, thats how ONSTAR knows where to send the EMT’s in the event of a crash.

He carries a blackberry, those that would do him, and us, harm can ‘see him’.

‘If you can see a target, you can hit it. If you can hit it, you can kill it.”

Colin Powell, during the Gulf War

That hasn’t changed, and the Secret Service knows it.

Interesting. Wonder if security is an issue in private businesses.

And this particular Blackberry will be used for communication with who? And to what end?

Will it be subject to the same kind of archiving as all of the White House communications are?

Not that the below should make us suspicious or anything...

Earlier in the transition, there was a plan to give select officials access to a Blackberry owned by the Democratic National Committee; the devices would be able to be used for political communication but would be subject to different disclosure rules.

Not saying that Obama is a "tool". But a secure Blackberry that wasn't archived would be a handy means of communication between him and his "handler".

It wasn’t the secrecy that had him surrendering his blackberry, it was the notion that all such communications would have to be archived for possible subpoena later.
