The press said nothing for years about the affairs of JFK and RFK until some years after their deaths.

Obama and his people were able to access the divorce records of two candidates which led to his victory. The press has gone after Republican candidate's private lives for years. I hate to say it but this is now fair game.
If I am not mistaken they even went after Howard Baker many years ago. I recall he was Ford's first choice for running mate in 1976 but we got Dole instead and we got Dole again in 1996.
