Mexican collapse?

Indiscriminate kidnappings. Nearly daily beheadings. Gangs that mock and kill government agents.

This isn't Iraq or Pakistan. It's Mexico, which the U.S. government and a growing number of experts say is becoming one of the world's biggest security risks.

The prospect that America's southern neighbor could melt into lawlessness provides an unexpected challenge to President Obama's government. In its latest report anticipating possible global security risks, the U.S. Joint Forces Command lumps Mexico and Pakistan together as being at risk of a "rapid and sudden collapse."

"The Mexican possibility may seem less likely, but the government, its politicians, police and judicial infrastructure are all under sustained assault and pressure by criminal gangs and drug cartels," the command said in the report, published Nov. 25.

Retiring CIA chief Michael V. Hayden told reporters Friday that Mexico could rank alongside Iran as a challenge for Mr. Obama - perhaps a greater problem than Iraq.

The Justice Department said last month that Mexican gangs are the "biggest organized crime threat to the United States." Outgoing National Security Adviser Stephen J. Hadley said last week that the worsening violence threatens Mexico's democratic form of government.

The alarm is spreading to the private sector as well. Mexico - Latin America's second-biggest economy and the United States' third-biggest oil supplier - is one of the top 10 global risks for 2009 identified by the Eurasia Group, a New York-based consulting firm.

As more and more money poured across the Mexican border, the drug cartels were able to make all sorts of critical purchases. They bought guns, they bought vehicles and then they bought politicians and members of the police and military.

This is how we fix the problem with drug money...

You remind me of the second generation Mexican-American who Carlos Mencia tried his best to say..”Mexico sucks”

I saw that episode! And it is so true...you can never get a Mexican to admit Mexico sucks...(which it does...been there...never going back again)...you can't fix a problem unless you first admit the problem exists. Mexicans will never admit it and will never accept it is their own fault....so the problem will never go away. I'll puke if I hear the phrase "Mexicans are hardworking honest people" one more time. If that were true in general that country wouldn't be the corrupt, drug-infested suck-hole that it is. And personally I wouldn't care but they are bringing their loser third-world culture with them when they climb the fence....

MIDEAST DUMB Let's be specific----the US takes raw recruits off the farm, sends them to boot camp for three weeks---they are then ready for battle. In Iraq, it took several years and trillions of US tax dollars to get them ready to defend their country.

MEXICO DUMB Looks like Mexico is using the Mideast Dumb Playbook---the Chapter entitled "How To Play Dumb To Dupe the US Into Pouring Trillions of Tax Dollars Into Your Pockets."
