THE South Australian Government is urging people not to use their air conditioners as the state swelters in three days of 40C-plus ((104 F). Citing the community's environmental responsibilities, the State Government today put our a press release saying there were many alternatives to using air conditioners, urging South Australians to instead insulate ceilings and use external blinds or a pergola to shade windows, AdelaideNow reports.

The Transport, Energy and Infrastructure Department's energy division's press release said residents should close curtains and use portable and ceiling fans instead of air conditioners.

"The department ... is advising householders that there are many ways to keep your home cool before using air conditioners," acting community programs manager Jim Corbett said.

"Fans and evaporative cooling are good choices to minimise energy use and greenhouse gas emissions."

It won’t surprise me one bit if they pull this stunt here in the very near future.

I suggest that they do not try this in Phoenix.

They don't want to try it in Tennessee either. The humidity here is horrid and makes the heat that much worse.

But they way things are going in DC these days, I don't put it past them to try this stunt.

As much as I loathe overly cold air conditioners in the summer—I use a heater in my office counteract the A/C—I find it utterly ridiculous to expect anyone NOT to use their A/C when it’s over 100 degrees outside. Hell, even I turn it on when it gets above 85 or so inside my house.

Hopefully the government will set the example in say Miami around August, that should make it a short lived event!

Hmmmmmmm, they may not wait four months. They may start by telling us to keep our thermostats turned way down and to don extra sweaters. It’s happened before.

The Dims are drunk on the sense of power they feel right now and I fear they’re going to push as hard and fast as they can with anything they can get away with.

I just feel for the elderly who might not survive it. I've lived in FL during the summer (and I was fairly young at the time) and I couldn't handle that heat without A/C.
It could kill elderly folks.

I’ll be pushing back, too. I’m already all over my senators and congressman. Two RINOs and a Dim. It’s gonna be a looooooong four years. *sigh*

Yes the humidity is so high here it is impossible for them to get cool BTW I meant Government buildings, sorry I was not better at getting my point across.

The humidity here can get almost as bad as FL. It does make it nearly impossible to get cool without A/C.

They’ll most likely start with government buildings, but I don’t put it past them to push it further by making the demand for homes, too, before it’s over.
I trust those people not one bit.

I think a lot of us expect it.

It’s the idiots who voted for the Obamination, and for the other Dims, who will be surprised. Their votes show they haven’t a clue about anything outside their own little worlds.

The Australian gummint must be mad! 104 Fahrenheit in Oz is sweltering heat. I believe telling them not to air condition is going to expose them to serious medical risk — particularly the elderly.

Thanks, AlGore(R) Inventor-of-the-Internet(TM). You could have deaths on your hands due to “Global Warming(C)”, your latest invention.
