Violent Unrest Rocks China as Crisis Hits

LONDON: The collapse of the export trade in China has left millions jobless and set off a wave of violent unrest in the country.

Bankruptcies, unemployment and social unrest are spreading more widely in China than officially reported, according to an independent research that paints an ominous picture for the world economy, The Sunday Times reported.

The research was conducted for the newspaper over the last two months in three provinces vital to Chinese trade - Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu.

It was found that the global economic crisis has scythed through exports and set off dozens of protests that are never mentioned by the state media.

According to the report in the southern province of Guangdong, three jobless men detonated a bomb in a business travellers' hotel in the commercial city of Foshan to extort money from the management.

All along the coast, angry workers besieged labour offices and government buildings after dozens of factories closed their doors, without paying wages and their owners went back to Hong Kong, Taiwan or South Korea.

In southern China, hundreds of workers blocked a highway to protest against pay cuts imposed by managers. At several factories, there were scenes of chaos as police were called to stop creditors breaking in to seize equipment in lieu of debts.

In northern China, television journalists were punished after they prepared a story on the occupation of a textile mill by 6,000 workers.

Furious local leaders in the city of Linfen said the news item would "destroy social stability" and banned it.

Might want to rethink that idea of not buying our T-Bills big boy. We are joined at the hip now, for better or worse.

In times like these, I am so glad that Obama-Pelosi-Reid are in charge.

God help us all.

Just what the world needs, 10s of millions of angry Chinese men who are out of work. What is their government going to do to redirect their rage?

They have had a small taste of the benefits of capitalism. All the propaganda on earth can’t take that away. They’ll need to start a war to redirect this aggression.

My father had a saying that if you owed someone money, you were the debtor and the he was the creditor. But, if you owed someone a fortune, you were partners.

Soon to come to the USA.

Great, just what we need. More Chinese imports. Cheap, plastic violent unrest.

There was a time when America manufactured its own violent unrest. Matewan, The Bonus Marchers, Chicago in 68. Those days are long gone. Now all we have is the crappy Chinese imports..

Courtesy of Deng Xiaoping.

But starting a war could cost them dearly.

There is no float or sink to it, we’d sink, at least right now. But the reckoning is going to come, sooner or later. I tend to think, like you, that sooner is better, because the longer we put it off, the worse it will be.

For years, I’ve said, that China’s bottleneck to more leverage in the world was their lack of a substantial deep-water navy.
They have the numbers, but their means of getting them around is quite limited. Still more-or-less true.

I also said that China’s greatest threat to the world would be if they opened their borders and let them all go.

I can’t imagine the humanitarian crisis this would bring to the region and the world - but what will happen when they can’t feed them any more?

Things that make you go “hmmm”.

With as much as we get from China, I wonder why we're not seeing shortages here. Perhaps because we're cutting out luxuries and the shrinkage of the marketplace for large ticket items isn't a crisis for us. But, what about clothes, toys, and all the other myriad of items?

Is this a 6 months out crisis for the United States?

And how does the buy American spark 0bama has/had play into international trade in events like this?

What will happen when Americans take to the streets by the millions for these same reasons? This is a taste of OUR OWN future.

It's not just a question of the Chinese rioting. Americans will soon be rioting in large numbers, as well.

“What will happen when Americans take to the streets by the millions for these same reasons? This is a taste of OUR OWN future.”

And when it does I will firmly place the blame on the liberals and the media. For decades they have been saying how the government needs to be in charge to properly take care of things (like China). Only the government can properly manage our resources (like China). Wages, retirement funds, health care, etc. And now, they have pretty much convinced folks of that (hence Obama’s election).

When things get ugly in the next year, or two in the U.S., folks will be up in arms. But....you said things would be better (like in China).

I know, you're right. I was musing, and I'm tired.

I've had this discussion with my family now and again, at least that it's inevitable that something would go awry.

Looks like it's coming home, alright.

Let's also not forget that millions of these angry Chinese men cannot find wives due to the one child policy.

They will redirect the hatred toward some other enemy and start a war.
