Army Spc. Cody Ford was a native of Jones Creek in East Texas.
Ford was killed in December 2006 when the vehicle he was riding in struck an improvised explosive device in Baghdad.
The Houston Chronicle reported thieves desecrated his grave last month in a rural cemetery in Brazoria County.
They stole the airborne infantryman's bronzed jump boots, a bronzed assault rifle, a bronzed helmet even the bronze base that supported the battle cross above his grave, along with the battle cross itself and Ford's dog tags.
Army Spc. Travis Babbitt was a native of Uvalde. Babbitt was killed in an insurgent ambush south of Baghdad in 2004.
An emotional episode of PBS's Frontline series documented Babbitt's heroic actions in combat and subsequent death.
The Express-News reported thieves stole Babbitt's medals including a Silver Star and a Bronze Star along with two boxes of his clothing during a summer burglary in Copperas Cove.
Ford and Babbitt represent the best our nation has to offer. The lowlifes who stole their keepsakes represent its dregs and are among its worst offenders.
It's sickening to think that the latter are profiting from the deaths of the former.
What motive can explain such crimes? Even if you can rationalize piggish thievery for scrap metal, what could possibly account for stealing a cross or some old clothes?
All crimes are wrong. But some are worse and more senseless than others.
Vandalizing the graves of America's heroes and stealing the symbols of their gallantry are among the most repulsive.
I've known Americans to desecrate graves, vandalize national monuments, urinate on/burn the American flag, splatter blood on recruiting stations, spit on returning soldiers and call them baby killers.
Without a single exception, it is always a Democrat/liberal/hippie/counter-culture/progressive, or whatever alias they go by today.
My son leaves for the Marines this week, and I foresee me winding up in jail with clumps of some smelly hippie maggot's face stuck to my knuckles.
“Without a single exception, it is always a Democrat/liberal/hippie/counter-culture/progressive, or whatever alias they go by today.”
That is the definition of one of those lowlifes.

You are right!
Prayers for your son.
My guess is either a DU-type, or an illegal alien. Either way, find him and hang him.

They can be recovered from the local Democrat Party office.
revenge is a dish best served cold :)
Tell your son to get some extra sleep this week before he leaves....
Bravo!!
Thank you for raising such a fine young man. I would also wonder if some local musim scum might have done the evil act upon this mans grave. They walk among us and most don’t even know.
* oops make that muslim scum...
Find ‘em, hang ‘em, make their families watch.
Sempi Fi to your son. I’m sure he’ll make a fine Marine.
That means a lot to me. Thank you.
Now that is a feel good story I needed to get my day going...Thanks.
Too kool.
I cannot comprehend how some fu*k could spit on a soldier. I am profoundly sorry that happened to you, and can only imagine the giddyness & glee upon finding him.
They’ve been stealing bronze vases out of local cemetaries to sell for scrap.
At the risk of over-using a phrase; it has purely been a pleasure. Thank you very much.
I don't know how bad I hurt that idiot but he was still laying there when we left. Abd that is exactly what I will do to anyone that does that to a member of our military today. I may be 62 but I can still pack a punch.
So, think these qualify as “hate crimes”? Think we’ll get enhanced punishments authorized for those convicted of desecrating the grave of a fallen military member?
Me neither. And the sacrifice is still the sacrifice. Carry on.
Colonel, USAFR
Thank you for your service to our country when it called for you. And also a heartfelt thanks for your right cross to the jawbone of an ass. Growing up in Boulder, CO during the 60’s and 70’s, I saw my fair share of these clowns.
