COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AFP) – Police have made eight arrests in connection with the party that led to publication of a photograph of Beijing Olympic hero Michael Phelps, television station WIS reported Tuesday.
Phelps, the American swim star who won a record eight gold medals at Beijing six months ago, was not among those charged in a probe by the Richland County Sheriff's Department, according to the report.
Seven arrests were made for drug possession and another for distribution of drugs, with arrests resulting from search warrants served by the sheriff's department as part of their probe, WIS reported.
None of those arrested was named in the report.
A photograph of Phelps holding a bong, a pipe typically used for smoking marijuana, was published by a British newspaper last week and touched off a media frenzy that humiliated the Olympic hero.

I don’t see how they can from a picture. Like I said earlier, if you can convict after the fact for admitting to smoking, why hasn’t William the Impeached been arrested?
Actually, it should be part of the school board curricullum along with the rest of the rest of the life ******* **** they subject the folks who are gonna be running things when we're infirm. Subjecting the delicate lung alveoli to corrosive substances found in smoke of any kind is just wrong. To do it to be cool is just brain dead. Can you spell COPD?

LOL. Anyone thinking that Michael just made a one time mistake with this pictured bong hit is even more naive than Michael. He is clearly plenty experienced in the use of the bong.
My evidence: He was standing up while taking the hit. As anyone here who, in a previous life, may have used a bong will tell you, the first bong hits you take give you a head rush that will make someone standing up fall flat on their face. Only the well versed bongers stand up.

Other guys who tried to bring them back through customs had them taken never to be seen again.
Very true. I shipped one from Kuwait and one from Iraq even though the APO had a notice that absolutely no drug paraphernalia was permitted. I marked them as glass vases and they went through, but I know a lot people's disappeared.

You can carry any type of bong right through college dorm lobbies if you just put a lampshade on the top and walk like you have no concerns.
