I wasn’t being envious

No ever admits to envy. It's as if it doesn't exist anywhere, while we are drowning in it. Pointing out a wrong is good. Comparing yourself to others is a formula for unhappiness and disaster. Envy and anger are cardinal sins, for a reason.

For sure nobody likes admitting to a sin. But that doesnt preclude the possibility that they aren’t actually exhibiting the behaviour. I thought I was merely using rhetorical language to make a valid point. However, if it upsets you, I shall desist. And I will beware of the “green eyed monster”.
