I only wish I stayed in scouting longer. I went through Cub Scouts and did one year of Boy Scouts. Then a girl came along and showed me there was more to being a boy than things like scouting, putting saddle soap on your baseball glove, collecting baseball cards, and building plastic models. Ohhhh what would I do to have those years back.

I am an Eagle and a long time Scouter. My goal was to get the older Scouts to plan and execute on High Adventure Scouting. They planned white water rafting, snow camping, survival camping (3 days, 2 nights - max 10 pounds carried), and of course 7-10 day Sierra backpacking. With this, we were prepared to go head to head with any wiley girl. Most of our Scouts made Eagle and stayed until they were 18. And several are now in the military (one is a Seal).

The great thing was that the younger Scouts really looked up to these guys and the olders Scouts taught and looked out for the younger ones. Our older Scout are a pretty tough bunch of guys (I mean that in a good way.)

BE PREPARED.
