I have always thought that Texas entered the Union with a stipulation that it could divide itself into five states. I really don't know if that is true, but that could change the power structure in the Senate in one swoop.

Yes, Frantzie, there were two provisions included in the annexation agreement of 1845: that Texas kept its public lands and that Texas reserved the right to break into five separate states.
Many scholars argue that secession during the Civil War and readmission nullified the first annexation agreement. I, personally, don’t know.
I do recall that during the Arab oil embargo and gas rationing in 1973, there was talk of separate states to increase our voice in Congress.

I live in NW Oklahoma. One fall we drove between Tulsa and Stillwater every weekend and never saw less than 20 crossing the highway. The were all headed south. Must have been going to Texas.

Thanks for your explanation, I didn’t know the answer. Many prior ‘contracts’ were nullified by the Union concerning those who joined the South after the CW.
When Texas joined the union, Sam Houston demanded 3 counties in Texas be retained by the Cherokees who had settled them before white settlers. During the Texas war with Mexico, these Cherokees guarded Houston’s backside from marauding Mexicans.
But the US government broke that promise to the Republic of Texas after they joined, killed many of the Cherokees removing them and ran the rest to Mexico.
Probably... especially if they were “ugly”.
Seriously, though, it’s pretty easy to quickly assess the worldview of a person, if you know what to look for.
Remember how we’re always saying that libs are more worried about outcomes than rules? You can devise a test that will expose that worldview. It is this dichotomy of assumptions on which all other positions on issues are based.

What about a far right Christian from NJ that has been ostracized by the state of NJ for getting a homosexual video removed from schools. Also, I am a gun owner and HATE LIBERALS!
