In a second reversal of the Bush administration, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Wednesday he is scrapping leases for oil-shale development on federal land in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.

Salazar rescinded a lease offer made last month for research, development and demonstration projects that could have led to oil-shale works on 1.9 million acres in the three states, greatly expanding the program.

"I am withdrawing that Jan. 14 solicitation because in my view it was a midnight decision, and it was flawed," Salazar told reporters on a teleconference call from Washington, D.C

Domestic energy is acceptable, so long as it does not involve petroleum. We must be weaned from our “oil addiction,” don’t ya know?

A midnight decision? What does that mean? Was a hooker involved? Geeesh, I am confused.

Can I vote for both?

Cut military, fund acorn, cut domestic energy, fund wetlands for a rodent.

Well, the Left DOES have their priorities. And they're not bad -- if you're insane.

But frankly, I think it’s not a serious effort to keep oil prices low but just a cheap political trick.

I think it will be a VERY VERY VERY expensive political trick.

Price of gas will start marching back up. Make the O very happy. His insistence that we must use wind and solar power will become more attractive while we sit twiddling our thumbs.

Not a drop in the bucket, but a bucketful in the ocean. No doubt he’ll call it an “investment” either way.

Obama just ruined our chances for long-term energy independence.

We have more oil shale than the middle east has oil!!!

What a putz.

No they will raise taxes to fund stupid wasteful projects like solar energy boondoggles, etc.

Obama just ruined our chances for long-term energy independence.

And, at the same time, he told us he's not seriously interested in our long-term energy independence.

He's more interested in his leftist socialist agenda.

Geez, this is unbelievable. What are these people trying do to this country? The USA is going to be the most oil dependent nation on the face of the earth.

We are so screwed. Time for secession talks to go forward, start gathering people to take a state and secede from the USA, start a new country.

You misunderstand.

When our strategic oil reserve is sufficiently depleted, and we no longer have sufficient POL to project force, Middle East oil production gets interrupted.

No strategic reserves. Minimal domestically produced oil. No ME production.

The US will be rendered irrelevant in maintaining world peace.

The butcher’s bill for the global war resulting from that “mis”calculation will be of Biblical proportions.

Awwww, the future. It is very dark here in the future. It seems the “ONE” signed the Kyoto Treaty and now the US sits in the dark and cold. The “One” doesn’t think we should have warm houses.

But, we are definitely “energy independent” and we can all take baths tomorrow when the sun comes out and our solar panels warm our hot water....we have to hurry though, it is a long walk to work.

A VERY high cost.

Oh my, global warming! Hep me, hep me. Oh Lordy, hep me.

Stupid SOBs.

The damage these people are doing will take decades to reverse IF it can be reversed and I don’t think it can be.

I hope people enjoy the cold, the dark, the isolation, the depression, the being trapped and the hunger.

I also hope you enjoy watching the ruling class have all the things you don’t have and I hope you can somehow accept that you can’t do a thing about it anymore.
