Senate votes to give DC citizens vote in Congress
Associate Press ^ | February 26, 2009 | JIM ABRAMS

District of Columbia when it became the nation's capital two centuries ago would be granted under legislation the Senate passed Thursday.

Congress is "moving to right a centuries-old wrong," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid shortly before the 61-37 vote.

The House is expected to pass the measure with a strong majority next week and President Barack Obama, a co-sponsor when the bill failed to clear the Senate two years ago, has promised to sign it.

The measure is likely to face a court challenge immediately after becoming law; opponents argue that it is unconstitutional because D.C. is not a state and does not qualify for representation.

It’s like a nightmare and it just keeps getting worse and worse.

The Constitution doesn't mean anything to this Congress. It is living and breathing and they just change it to suit the RAT purposes. And they sucker in a few RINOs so that Piglosi, Reid, and Bama can claim these are Bi-Partisan bills. The DNC Media plays right along and most of the dumb couch potatoes watching their 6pm and 10pm news never would know any difference.

With this media conglomeration in the US the GOP will never be able to take it back. It is the conservative RIGHT that should be screaming about all the non-NEWS that is broadcast, not the LEFT going after a few opinionated talk hosts. It is the lack of honest NEWS coverage that should be taken to task. Everyone is entitled to opinions, but the NEWS is what has been completely subverted to DNC Propaganda.

[a nailgun into a finger - always my left hand too]

Lol, maybe that’s because you use your right hand to do harm to your left hand...heh.

Must be a beauty, ol’ scar hand, lolol.

Your left hand knows not what your right hand intends.

“We don’t do it. Too civilized.”

FReepers and conservatives quote the scrappy founders constantly.

The founders were fighters and risk-takers.

Conservatives will “nice-guy”, “above-all-that” themselves right into serfdom.

What the hell are you guys waiting for?

What more do you need to see before it makes sense to fight back?

We must organize and ACT!

If you sit on the sidelines the hard-left, and the Republican scaredy-cats, will assume you don’t care, you’re too ignorant, maybe you WANT this stuff to happen.

Again, what are you people waiting for?

NO, listening to talk radio and watching Fox News is NOT fighting back. Getting pissed-off while you listen or watch is NOT fighting back. It must be transformed into ACTION. It must actually have an influence on someone or something.

We’re inches from losing rights to our labor, a step from losing our gun rights, actively losing our chance at achieving/keeping wealth, and on, and on...

Christ, I never thought I would see the day when Americans didn’t know when and how to defend themselves and their liberty.

Yeah, we’re “above all that”, “only the left protests”...

It seems we’re “above” earning back our right to be free.

It seems we’re “above” the proactive defending of liberty.

It seems we’re “above” all the effort and sacrifice that previous generations of Americans readily offered-up.

In my estimation, that puts us somewhere just above ingrates and below real Americans.

Any chance he’s being blackmailed? I thought he was a staunch conservative, but between this and his position on tax payer funded embryonic stem cell research, I don’t know what to think. He’s not the person I once respected and admired.

“I want to know when my oath to protect and defend the Constitution from Domestic enemies kicks in.”

I say whenever “We The People” deem necessary, which appears to be soon, very soon.

>>Well they got another rep for Utah in exchange so it shouldn’t effect the balance.

And I see an argument for either not taxing them or else giving them representation.

Why does Utah get an extra Representative? If DC gets another vote, shouldn’t some other state lose a Representaive? What the heck is going on here? <<

The theory was that Utah is a very safe red state and would balance DC. This will permanently change the number of representatives.

Who has standing to challenge it?

Every member of the House and every resident of a State, because the DC pseudo-Representative would dilute the voting power of the other Representatives.

I called Voinovich’s office, and the aide said, “But Utah gets another member, too!”

You have to understand something about the mentality here. The mentality is that the government is the personal possession of the political parties and they can do with the government as they see fit, the Constitution be damned. So if they "give" Utah another Republican fiefdom to balance out the DC fiefdom given to the Democrats they see it as even.

“The fact that the bill is unconstitutional and politically motivated, however, does not mean the courts will strike it down. The reason is that in order for a court to strike down a law, someone needs to challenge the law before the court — and in order to challenge the law, a plaintiff needs to demonstrate standing, or that the law has harmed him in some way. Even if the bill contains a section that purports to provide lawmakers standing, there is grave doubt that the courts would respect it. Members of the Senate sued in 1997 regarding a statute that contained such a section, but the Supreme Court ruled that the senators lacked the direct and personal injury required for standing. The type of political injuries that the D.C. bill would inflict might not be sufficient to meet this standard, either.”

Here’s what I’m contemplating:

Comrade Claire McCaskill
Washington, DC.
Re: S 160
February 26, 2009

Comrade McCaskill:

I thought you took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America? Have I been misled about this?

Apparently you have not even read the Constitution because, if you had, you would know that Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution, states that members of the House should be chosen “by the people of the several states” and that the seat of the federal government is “not to be considered a state.” If you have indeed read it, could it be that your ability to comprehend it is lacking?

Nevertheless, since you appear to be clueless regarding these matters, the proper method for changing the Constitution is by amending it. Perhaps Washington, DC should be made smaller and those areas currently occupied by “citizens” should be annexed by surrounding cities/states?

Frankly, your vote on S-160 is just another of many signs of your gross incompetence as a Senator from the State of Missouri. If you had ANY principles, you would be ashamed of yourself. But alas, your ability to discern the difference between right and wrong, good and bad, justice and injustice, virtue and vice has been compromised by your arrogance and pride.

Utterly despicable were the words vomited from that piece of refuse, Harry Reid, when he said that Congress was “moving to right a centuries-old wrong.” This buffoon should be tried as an enemy of the Republic! The fact that you align yourself with this contemptible and vile degenerate is beyond disgraceful.

Please don’t write me or contact me with your B*** S*** anymore! As far as I’m concerned, you no longer represent Missouri citizens or Missouri values and principles. Nor do you represent AMERICAN values or principles. Your blatant disregard for the Constitution is beyond loathsome.

I look forward to the day when more States begin proceedings to assert their Constitutional independence and remove themselves from the tyranny of the out-of-control bureaucrats and despots in Washington. Thankfully, many still believe in and honor the oath that they took to “defend and protect the Constitution of the United States from enemies – BOTH FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC!” I eagerly await the day when justice prevails in Washington and the Constitution is once again the LAW of this land!

The time is long past when we should have physically done something. It is not to late though and I believe will be soon. I mean things are spinning out of control and something must be done and NOW.
As long as we refuse to surrender our weapons even in the face of police authority and get out there and get in their faces, just like our false president told his minions, then we will be alright. I for one believe also that our military, for the most part, will rise up and side with us who adhere to the Constitution as it was intended.
What makes me the angriest and the most livid is that people like the reid’s and obama’s and pelosi’s etc etc would put us in a position to possibly shed the blood of our countrymen. All because of their rebellious (like their Father the devil) self-righteous pride and perversions. Above ALL though their mouthpiece the MSM will and should be the first target. I was in communications in the U.S. Army and we always understood during time of war we were the first to be targeted. Without their propaganda machine they would fall apart like a house of cards in a wind storm!

I’ll add impeachment. There was a Senator who was impeached and removed from office back in the 1800s.
