I called Voinovich’s office, and the aide said, “But Utah gets another member, too!” I said I was aware of that, but that Utah or any other state won’t get the two senators that will be pushed through in the near future for DC. The stupid kid didn’t know what to say to that, so I consoled him by telling him his boss was either a) arrogant enough, b) stupid enough or c) both, by voting for something so blatantly unconstitutional.
That Utah seat could be used as a wedge and actually cost the GOP a seat in Utah not to mention the 100% guaranteed (and unsplittable) DC seat for the dems.
You have to understand something about the mentality here. The mentality is that the government is the personal possession of the political parties and they can do with the government as they see fit, the Constitution be damned. So if they "give" Utah another Republican fiefdom to balance out the DC fiefdom given to the Democrats they see it as even.
