WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama challenged the nation's vested interests to a legislative duel Saturday, saying he will fight to change health care, energy and education in dramatic ways that will upset the status quo.

"The system we have now might work for the powerful and well-connected interests that have run Washington for far too long," Obama said in his weekly radio and video address. "But I don't. I work for the American people."

He said his ambitious budget plan, unveiled Thursday, will help millions of Americans, but only if Congress overcomes resistance from deep-pocket lobbies.

His class warfare schtick is getting really OLD. We all know that the Rich don’t have to stay in the USA. They can relocate to a number of Central and South American countries that will welcome them. The rest of us will be stuck with this Marxist’s idea of Paradise, where he and his crabby wife will rule the rest of us.

More lobby-news in the news. I wonder what's going on behind the scenes.

Obama might have the right idea (I'm a strong Executive-type), but I think the lobbyists will grind him to dust as they've ground everyone to dust before him. In fact, the only thing that'll make it interesting to watch is that the lobbyists now have to change their strategy to opposing the President by influencing his nominal supporters in Congress.

“Wow. No more lobbyists influence.”
You mean there are still lobbyists that aren't already on his staff?
I wonder if the “free of lobbyist influence” includes those from unions, environmental wacko groups and the overtly communist organizations? /s

I'm sure that includes the NEA, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, Teamsters, ACLU, UAW, UMW, USW, SAG, NARAL, etc., etc. as those who are the "big-time Washington Lobbyists" who will no longer influence tax decisions.....

Gimme a break....the goal of taking successful folks' earnings and handing it to inner-city fourth generation welfare recipients and liberal teachers, lawyers, etc. will continue until ALL resistance is beaten down to zero.....

Probably challenging the pro-Israel lobby. His pro-Arab, pro-Islamic orientation will be pretty “in your face” IMO.

Total fabrication there. More like, I work against the American Public. I need to stop gun violins and create whorled peas.

What a crock. Huge corporations have been lobbying for these changes for years, as a means of entrenching - putting up more barriers to upstarts (i.e. regulatory capture). For the top carnivores, these changes will be enormously profitable (there will be no pressure from competition to reduce costs and margins - only political pressure to provide “value” which can be allayed with the comparatively minuscule costs party to graft, kickbacks, and bribery.

To the government, this is about enlarging the permanent underclass of welfare dependents, locking in demand for government expansion and neutering forces which would otherwise chip away at that demand. For huge corporations, this is about being positioned to partake of enormous, truly risk-free investments derived by being party to the delivery of government social programs with enormous demand and near-inexhaustible supplies of funds (fiat credit expansion).
