I don’t know of many young people that relish the thought of not having health insurance. A friend of mine (who had a full time job, but no insurance) noticed blood in her urine one day and went to the hospital, and they wound up keeping her overnight (she turned out to be okay, I don’t remember what it was), but then got stuck with a $15,000 medical bill.
It just sucks to be in a situation where you can’t afford the several hundred a month for insurance, and you sure as heck can’t afford to actually get sick.
