Do you mean the Ill senator? If he quits, the dems will appoint another - no way they want an election which the reps might just win. Best he stay and wins the dem primary - then run a good rep and it will be a pick-up.
NY-20 will probably be a win for the GOP, if current indications hold up. Looks like Paterson inadvertently did the GOP a favor by creating that vacancy with his Senate appointment.
