The Coast Guard called off its search for three missing football players at sunset Tuesday.

The news came after crews combed choppy waters off the Florida Gulf Coast for a third full day since NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith and a third friend William Bleakley disappeared. Their fishing boat capsized in stormy seas Saturday evening.

One of the four on the excursion, Nick Schuyler, survived.

They’ve been well outside any possible survival time for a while now, have you been following this from the beginning. Even the guy they found suffered from slight hypothermia and he was on top of the boat.

They stopped at 6:30 this evening, even though they knew there was no chance at finding them alive at this point.

Being a boater and living by a lake in Arizona I know what you are talking about. I believe it should be required to take a coast guard class before they give you the license for your boat. But then you have the people who rent boats, jet ski’s and houseboats to people with absolutely zero boating experience.. you wouldn’t believe some of the stories... and even worse up at Lake Powell where we go every year they rent to foreign visitors who have no idea which side of the lake to drive on.. now this is not only a VERY large lake, but it is a lake with a whole lot of hazards... these rental “blue tops” scare the heck out of me.

yep! We’ve had our anchor caught on underwater trees here before where we had no alternative but to cut the rope. Sometime’s it is just easier and safer to buy a new anchor.

That SUCKS> They could still be alive.

Doubt it with hypothermia & sharks, it's quite doubtful after all this time...

They said a cold front came thru Saturday & most boats that were out, returned by around noon that day.

They said a cold front would trigger very choppy water conditions that far out in the gulf!

Yatahay! Ahoy! & Aloha!

That area is beautiful, and I miss it very much.

It nice to show signaling devices but any idiot looking to take a single engine 21 foot boat out into that kind of weather is not smart enough to think about such devices.

Anyone remember the 24/7 search for John-John Kennedy when his airplane disappeared in the Atlantic? That search was going to continue until they were found, in whatever condition. Just saying.

They probably had those but couldn’t reach them because the boat turned over so quick.

"They probably had those but couldn’t reach them because the boat turned over so quick."

You knew one of the men swam into the capsized boat to get the lifejackets?

"It was Bleakley who swam underneath to retrieve three life jackets he could find, along with a cushion, a groggy Schuyler told Miller from a Tampa hospital."

Yep but what happens when a lifejacket hits the water? it floats. What happens when heavy flares hit the water, most of em sink.
