Why Steele just doesn't get it
Politico ^ | Thu Mar 5, 4:22 am ET | Roger Simon

Michael Steele has just dipped his toe into the water and is already in over his head.

Steele has been the chairman of the Republican National Committee for only about a month, and already there is speculation that he may be on his way out.

Politico is now swarming with out of work liberal journalists from the Wash Post and other Rat papers. Expect from them exactly what you would if they still worked for their old rags.

I think Steele is just reflecting what he heard inside the beltway bubble about Rush’s speech. He needs to start thinking for himself and get down to work.

I think you're right. I'd bet that at the time he made the statements about Rush, he hadn't even seen Rush's speech. He was given his opinion by others, and regretably believed them. Let's see if he does so again...

As disappointing as Steele is turning out to be, all the same, Politico is not a really credible source - full of washed up, ex-WashPo hacks.

Question - If junk MSM data (NBC/WSJ "polls") supposedly show the GOP faring so poorly, then why are hard data (i.e. Rasmussen polls, etc.) saying that the GOP is pretty much in statistical parity with the Dems on generic congressional balloting (which would translate into modest gains if the election were held today)?

Answer: Junk data is, well, junk.

only 26 percent of Americans have a positive view of the Republican Party

The last 8 years tainted the Republican brand.

The definition of insanity should come in here: Doing the same over and over, but expecting a different result.

That is what the GOP has been doing. They didn't get the message in the 06 massacre, and they didn't get it in the 08 slaughter. Yet, Steele and other prominent Republicans continue to advocate big-tent-ism and being more 'moderate' (gobblespeak for 'become more liberal').

If the GOP continues on the same course, they will see even more losses in 10, unless Obama and the Dems screw up worse than Clinton in his first term.

Although imperfect—I like Steele. And I want him to succeed. He blew the Limbaugh thing at first because he was trying too hard to “be down” with brother Hughly (sp?), but I think he will now be all the stronger because of that. I”m going to give him a little more time before I throw him under the bus.

"I am just tired of the whole thing. Steele is on notice I would imagine and if he doesn’t pick up his game, he is toast. Why go on and on about it?"

Whether you, I or anyone else is tired factors in not at all.

You are the one going on and on. On and on with a plant you describe as on notice. Guess what? We don't need guys on notice right now.

Do you think Rush can afford a set to with Steele? Is that his smart move? He'd be tarring himself. He has no choice. And even if his assurances are authentic, so what? Are you Rush or Laura? I'm not.

"loosers on FR have fallen for the Democrats game of divide and conqueror."

As one of those "losers" (assuming that's what you meant), I have not fallen for anything of the sort. What I want you and others in the republican party to do is get back to a set of principles that define republicans. My suggestion is to follow the Reagan example and base the party on conservatism.

Conservatism doesn't give a rat's ass about color, religion, gender, race, ethnicity...etc. Conservatism is the way the world works and by following its tenets, you give ALL voters something to relate to, feel comfortable with, grow with and save the country (and Republican party) with.

Losing these principles is why the party loses elections and members. It's the reason why I am no longer a Republican. To paraphrase what Reagan used to say about why he wasn't a Democrat ant more: "I didn't leave the party; the party left me." Get back to principles and you'll get back your voters and your place in government.

Honestly, I don’t know what you are trying to say in your post. Is it Steele you are piss at, Rush, Laura...or just anyone that doesn’t want to talk about it anymore?

In case you haven’t noticed...it is leftwing blogs, Msnbc,NBC, CNN and the rest of the corrupt American media going on and on about it becasue that is their marching orders from Rahm and Obama...straight from Alinsky rules.

You apparently want to talk it...I just don’t right now. It’s yesterday’s news.

Your source is full of old Wash. Post hacks.

Obama is destroying America with his Marxist programs and loosers on FR have fallen for the Democrats game of divide and conqueror

Those of us criticizing Steele for his foibles and his lack of conservative principles are not as dumb as you think.

We are more than able to rebuke Steele and the GOP for their RINO behavior, while at the same time attacking Obama and his socialism.

We need to get our own house in order before we head into the '10 elections or we will see the same exact outcome as we saw in '08 and '06.

I think it's sad that the same people on here that complain about the media being in the tank for BHO are the same ones that take their bait every time. This is one of the main reasons why Repubs are losing elections and why we can't get a consensus on issues because we stay divided. I'm not a big fan of Steele but he is the leader of the party and he does have the guts to stand up to the libs and Crats so I think it is time we stop the mudslinging and petty attacks on eachother, get united and get on the offensive against those that have the power and the will to do irreparable damage to this country. The longer we stay divided the more the msm, dnc, and every other lefty loon defines who we are and makes their ideology more mainstream. It's not too late but we need to act now.

There is no bait!

There are the bad behaviors, statements and actions, by Steele that he needs to be called out on.

You may think it has a negative effect when we take on our own for not being conservative, but it has the exact opposite effect, it scares the RINOs into line and when it does, it scares the Media and the Democrats, because they know how effective Reagan was.

Dude W started the divide and conqueror and Steele is the one one that went for chapter 2. He was just sittn round wit the homies talking about whitey and calling them Nazi's, ugly and so forth.

Steele has to go because he is too slow on his feet and broke the 11th Commandment.

There won’t be an 2010 election if we let Obama keep up his Marxist agenda.
You deal with the enemy at hand so there will be a 2010

We don’t have time for him to season. We wanted him in the job because we were lead to believe he could DO it, not because he needed to learn it. This is not a training ground, this is the real deal and it is SERIOUS.

I'm not a big fan of Steele but he is the leader of the party

No he's not. He's the leader of the Republican National Committee, an orginization that is supposed to help Republicans (not RINOs) get elected. This puts him on the same footing as Howard Dean.

The leader of the party is the person who is president or the leading contender for president - in other words it's Sarah Palin.

I joined the Libertarian Party the same time you left the Republican Party. And it wasn’t just because of Steele. Eric Cantor has had equal gaffes.

This is not a training ground, this is the real deal and it is SERIOUS.

I understand. However, this is the hand we have and that is that. Yes it is serious. Yes the nation is in dire straits. And M. Steele is a good, decent, and intelligent man. He will be fine. We, the base, by our actions will keep the pubbies in line as best they can be. We are not fighting the right battles at present. It is time to stop fighting each other and our leaders. Focus you anger on the Dims and their minions. Use your influence and ideas to shape our party. But fight the liberals. Because as you point out, this is serious and time is short. We do not have time to build another party.
