My Beef With Ann Coulter
Daily Beast ^ | Megan McCain

Posted on 03/09/2009 11:41:50 AM PDT by pissant

It is no secret that being a Republican isn’t the most hip political stance a person can take right now. President Obama has successfully established himself as the hippest politician around. You know you’re big when Katy Perry wears a dress with your face on it to host the MTV Europe Music Awards. To my fellow Republicans: I’m sorry, I wish I could be more positive about the current “hipness” of our party. But being a Republican is about as edgy as Donny Osmond. Granted, being “hip” is not a reason to join a political party, or a reason to agree with its ideals. But it is a way to get the attention of a generation—or, more specifically, my generation.

To make matters worse, certain individuals continue to perpetuate negative stereotypes about Republicans. Especially Republican women. Who do I feel is the biggest culprit? Ann Coulter. I straight up don’t understand this woman or her popularity. I find her offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time. But no matter how much you or I disagree with her, the cult that follows Coulter cannot be denied. She is a New York Times best-selling author and one of the most notable female members of the Republican Party. She was one of the headliners at the recent CPAC conference (but when your competition is a teenager who has a dream about the Republican Party and Stephen Baldwin, it’s not really saying that much).

I’m proud of them! And I’m not saying there aren’t conservative or even Libertarian leaning kids out there, but we have got to except we live in a marketing world.

The Democrats did and went with it and whining about how it’s not fair that they got the votes that way or that they shouldn’t have got them that way doesn’t change the majority in the House and Senate or the big ole Commie in the White House.

That was an incredibly selfless gesture for your friend, and it only adds to your beauty.

I get tired of the endless comments I see regarding women sometimes; yes, some actresses and media personalities are pretty, but beauty comes from within. It does not come from a makeup case or from being thin.

Your lovely daughter is blessed to have such a mother.

I think my daughter and I are typical of conservative women. I learned that "pretty is as pretty does" from my mother, a woman who devoted her entire life to the service of others. My parents were the most generous human beings I have ever known. All the polls demonstrating how generous conservatives are compared to liberals explains a lot.

Sorry....I have never heard Ann speak of dating liberals...MSM accounts matter not.

Reading most studies over the years, watching MTV, and listening to my 20 somethings and their friends, show young people who bother to vote, and vote for Dems, vote on gays and abortion. Leaving the others of course who vote for Republicans, tend to do so because of tax issues.

And yes, since elections are contests between two peole...with only one winner...then not voting for McCain, (the loser), means one ultimately votes for Obama, (the winner).

It's simple really!

I agree. I'm out in my community supporting apolitical causes, meeting people and demonstrating the best charity starts at home. I'm on facebook. I'm doing my best to show people self-reliance is cool.

RE: “...She never has anything nice to say about Sarah Palin, yeah the woman that busted her ass for her old man while he sat back and did nothing. Now she disses Ann Coulter..Hey Meghan, you sure talk a lot, how about saying it to her face!!”

**********

Meghan even reportedly dissed her own mom, calling her “An older woman in a pantsuit.” Well, I happen to think Cindy McCain is probably the BEST looking “older” woman I’ve seen in a pantsuit! Meghan just HAS to be jealous of her mom. Silly, as Meghan has a very pretty face herself! Change clothing styles, smarten up, lose a few pounds and Meghan would be a lot more appealing and likable.

No, it isn't simple really.

In voting for John McCain, you voted for someone who proposed a housing bailout larger than the one Obama proposed.

In voting for John McCain, you voted for someone who supports opening our borders to illegals, some of whom have killed and maimed American Citizens.

In voting for John McCain, you have voted for someone who pushed through a measure that mades it easier for Democrats to get elected and which stifles the 1st Amendment (McCain/Feingold).

In short, you voted for someone who has spent a substantial portion of his career undermining Conservative principles. In voting for John McCain, you made it clear to Democrats that you are OK with open borders, fine with an assault on the 1st Amendment, that you are for massive government bailouts, and that you approve of endless government intervention. Just like John McCain, the guy you voted for.

Here is SoConPubbie's annotated list(^) of some of Mr. McCain's "accomplishments".

I guess it is simple, really. Voting for John McCain kneecapped Conservatives in Congress and is allowing the Democrats to cram through all of the garbage they've dreamed about for years.

The problem is that Ann doesn't just "tell the truth," she tells it a venomous way that is calibrated to draw attention to Ann.

Venemous to whom? You can be the greatest author and analyst in the world, but if no one reads your stuff, it really is irrelevant. There have been plenty of political satirists and observers who use their words as a rapier shredding their critics and targets alike.

I have been attending CPAC the last four years. Ann far and away is the biggest draw, especially among the young college students who represent the future of the movement. I wish we had some politicians who could evoke that kind of passion and interest.

The Left demonizes Ann with comments like yours. They are obsessed with destroying her in much the same way they went after Sarah Palin. I find your comments laughable. They describe a phony caricature of Ann, not the real person. Do you have any specifics to cite?

FYI: Her books are full of facts and are well-researched, which is why the Left uses ad hominem attacks.

Duh. Her father is an alleged Rep senator. I know my daughter would never have voted for Kerry. I am a former naval officer and Vietnam veteran, just like McCain. I also served my full year in-country unlike Kerry. I educated my daughter about Kerry. What is McCain’s excuse?

Why is she even talking/writing? Is her singularity supposed to make her relevant?

Wow, the primaries are over....long ago. Unfortunately the Republican base gave McCain a win. Conservatives lost.

Therefore, the General Election was between Hussein a member of the UnAmerican Democrat Party who spent the last 8 years betraying their country at a time of war, a man who spent 20 years in a anti-american racist church, a friend of Weatherundergound terrorists, a very young unknown, unvetted radical with no experience, a man who sympathizes with our Islamic enemies, and so, so, much more.

Anyone with the power of discernment could see which candidate would be an appropriate President of the US.

Obviously, I am in the minority.

There is plenty of room in the conservative movement for hippies. We always teased my Grandma Ruby, telling her she was the original recycler. She was a Dust Bowler and she never squandered anything. She rinsed her bread wrappers and hung them on the clothes line to reuse as cellophane wrap. She cut the tops off her bleach bottle and used the bottom as an organizer and the top as a funnel. Of course she did all sorts of wonderful crafts. Nothing was ever wasted. The Dust Bowlers were the original conservative hippies.

Some folks call my husband a packrat, I call him brilliant. Although sometimes it gets frustrating because it starts to feel like Sanford and Son around here. But he is quite ingenuitive.

I don’t buy those ‘cheap’ Glad plastic bowls that you it’s ok to leave somewhere, I just use butter tubs and things like that. Not as pretty, but free! I’m using the butter anyway!
