Bristol Palin breaks up with fiance Levi Johnston
Herald Sun ^ | 12 March 2009

SARAH Palin's teenage Bristol has broken off her engagement to Levi Johnston two months after the birth of their child.

The 18-year-old daughter of the Alaskan Governor told the Associated Press (AP) she was "devastated" by the split.

"Unfortunately, my family has seen many people say and do many things to 'cash in' on the Palin name," she said in a statement.

"Sometimes that greed clouds good judgment and the truth."

Mr Johnston, 19, told AP the pair had mutually decided to end their relationship.

Bristol Palin's pregnancy was announced last summer days after her mother was named John McCain's running mate on the Republican presidential ticket.

"it seems to me that the boys push to “go all the way” a lot more often and insistently than the girls do."

I can give you that answer from my own personal experience, males (boys or adults) most certainly do. And relentlessly so.

Now, I understand there is a difference in biology. But there was a time, for most males (there have always been exceptions), due to upbringing, less effective birth control and that most couples married if a girl/woman got pregnant, this wasn't the case.

"Too bad for the baby but what the hell was this ditzy airheaded trollop thinking?"Iron Munro

A catty, insensitive comment if I ever read one. Kids today are pushed into sex prematurely. Bristol Palin was not immune to it, and in this seemingly consequence free world in which we live, like ever other teen her age, Bristol was not considering the consequences seriously enough.

It is a sad state affairs, but I'm not going to make Bristol more accountable than the rest of her peers in the current sexually charged climate.

Just think if she had aborted the baby, like the daughter of a pro-choice politician most likely do. We wouldn't even be having this discussion.

You are setting up a straw man.

Just think if they had both kept their knickers up.

Sorry it's not a straw man, which is to mischaracterize your argument and then attack the mischaracterization. It's another point. But nice try.

"Just think if they had both kept their knickers up."

Well, now, you used the word BOTH. A much fairer comment.

You are in trouble now!
There was a thread 2 days ago
and any who advocated for adoption
were scourged as sons of Satan.
We must all just shut up, think
that whatever the Palins do is
fine and support them unquestioningly.

What concretely is wrong with what he said ? He is offering reality based observations and you are offering hysteria, which although exciting, is not rational or constructive.

This was obvious from the beginning.
If they had had any intention of getting
married their pastor could have solved the
problem immediately. Not drag along with the
“charade “ that they were going to get married
in the future. What on earth reason would there
be to postpone if they actually meant to marry. Incredible gullibility on the part of those who believed this.

I think the only mistake was trying to justify Bristol’s mistake, by projecting her and Levi would get married, raise thier baby and live happily ever after..

The Palins are a good American Family they are not perfect, the Culture for teens is probaly the worst it has ever beeen in society..

Maybe they should of just said during the campaign, My daughter is pregnant, she plans on having her baby, we are going to help her so she can finish school and raise her child as a loving responsible mother..End of Story...

My 2 cents..:)

Yes, all bear responsibility in the long run, but the woman is the one who bears the child.

"The reality is that, while there are exceptions, children are better off even with abusive fathers than without them."

You obviously haven't been abused.

Sorry it's not a straw man, which is to mischaracterize your argument and then attack the mischaracterization.

You brought aborton into your criticism of my post when I never mentioned abortion as an alternative.

I was making another point to bolster my own argument, not mischaracterize yours. That’s clear in my post.

Pressure? Once the campaign was over who was paying any attention to them until now?

Yes, out of wedlock childbearing has become a public problem. The sad thing is this relationship might have had a ghost of a chance if not for all the publicity.

Look for a tell-all Sarah-bashing book or movie by Levi real soon. I am sure the enemies of Palin have been after him since Day 1 to spill, and being a young man who already lost his job because of the Palin-haters intrusions, it must have been hard to resist.
