"I guess that would make the policyholders the next public enemy #1.

Uh oh. Now you've gone and given them their next target. I'm going to empty my desk of all my AIG policies and burn them under the cover of the darkness of night.

"I have to really, really wonder if AIG is regretting the bailout.

I would guess yes, but they were in a tough predicament.

But, I know that Hank Greenberg is absolutely livid with it. He's been on Charlie Rose and Neal Cavuto quite a bit. If Greenburg hadn't have been "Elliot Spitzered" several years ago, I believe there's a good chance the US and the world wouldn't even be in this mess. - Thanks Elliot!

“Our government has overstepped its bounds BIG TIME here.

It’s not the beginning of the end. That happened on November 4th, 2008. This just greases the chute.

Blood in the street by year’s end. Mark my words.”

Sometimes I wonder if that is the goal; then martial law can be instituted.

If I was Liddy after the grilling yesterday, the nasty Code Pinko signs and Barney Franks and company, I would have quit right on the spot. He is working for FREE after all. Remember who forced Hank Greenburg out of AIG -- Spitzer!

If ever there was a time to clean house of all elected officials now is it.

Not entirely true...he gets $1 a year. Too much for some of the bomb throwers on this board though.

I agree, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that the government might look at you and say “Hey, that bonus was too high. Gimme some of that.” AIG, though, has done little to help itself. If they had done 99 out of 100 things wrong, they might have managed, but they have struck out 100% since the start of this fool deal.

The people that received the bonuses need to file for an emergency court order prohibiting the Government from any future harassment and have this bill right now squashed.

Obama knew these bonuses were being given and now he needs to explain why he's throwing his supporters under the bus.

Well, to be frank there hasn’t been a lot of gray matter coming from between the ears of many freepers in evidence lately... I’m thinking some should spend more time actually reading the constitution, the bill of rights and what is really going on here and less time posting.

How about we just pass a law that takes 90% of President Obama’s salary over $250,000? How about we forbid him from having more than one party a month? The country’s still in a bad recession and getting worse, and you could argue he’s doing nothing to help things. He’s paid 100% by the taxpayer. The hypocrisy of all of this is nuts.

I don’t agree with the AIG bonuses, but why is it okay for members of Congress to get automatic pay raises when they have utterly failed in their governance over the last few months? This whole government good, business EVIL is disgusting and anti-American.

I have to really, really wonder if AIG is regretting the bailout.

Getting in bed with Congress is like getting in bed with 535 crazy prostitutes with really bad diseases. Your life is never the same.

“They are GLOBALISTS. They are thinking internationally. Their primary interest and focus no longer on the well-being of America and the American citizen.
...
America needs its industrial base and its jobs back. We need to start buying and using American made products. We need to re-assess all our trade agreements and only continue with those in which AMERICA and Americans benefit.

We need to stop supporting financially people who hate us, whether Saudi Wahhabists or Red Chinese Communists, with our export dollars.

But you will have a difficult time finding ANYONE in EITHER party who supports that thinking.”

Unfortunately this is true. At this point in time the difference between the Democratic Party and Republican Party
is mere window dressing.

The few potential presidential candidates in the Republican party who feel as you do, were ignored and ridiculed by their own party.

No matter who were in power, we’d still be importing 138,000 new workers per month. How come that is not all over the MSM?

I didn’t see any knee jerk rapid response from Congress when the phone lines were taken down by citizen protests against amnesty.

At 8+ years after 9-11, why are our borders still sieves, why have we made no progress toward being energy independent?

&*%^$#@ (I’m doing my best to restrain myself)

I can guarantee you that many operations staff and finance personnel were offered retention bonuses at AIG. As the previous posters have stated, believing that all this money was paid to 50 people at AIG-FP is naive.

It's even more naive to think that its regular line staff getting big bonuses. Anyone who's worked in the finance industry (or any large corporation for that matter) knows that bonus compensation is very disproportionately distributed - nearly all of it goes to a few top executives.

These AIG bonuses were no different - the vast majority of the money DID go to just a handful of people. From NYTimes:

'On Tuesday, Mr. Cuomo reported that 73 A.I.G. employees were paid more than $1 million in bonuses.

"The highest bonus was $6.4 million, and six other employees received more than $4 million, according to Mr. Cuomo. Another 15 people received bonuses of more than $2 million, and another 51 people received bonuses of $1 million to $2 million."'

http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/19/cuomo-gets-list-of-aig-bonus-recipients/

If you total that up, those 73 guys took off with at least 2/3 of the total bonus money. And out of those guys, 11 have already jumped ship after getting their money and left the company.

So much for "retention".

Eric Cantor voted for this disgusting piece of legislation.

And has therefore lost me for good.

Who can blame them with the venom, anger and threats being spewed forth by congress, the media and the man on the street. I'm surprised Mr. Liddy didn't walk out of the hearing yesterday. I would have.
