4 cops shot, suspect dead after Calif. traffic stop

Police say suspect behind two separate shootings involving officers

OAKLAND, Calif. - Four officers were in critical condition and a suspect dead on Saturday after gunfire at a traffic stop led to a massive manhunt that ended in a shootout, police said.

Two officers were shot in the first incident just after 1 p.m. after they stopped the suspect's vehicle in east Oakland, said Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason.

The suspect fled the scene on foot into a nearby neighborhood, police said, leading to an intense manhunt by dozens of Oakland police, California Highway Patrol officers and Alameda County sheriff deputies.

Streets were roped off and an entire area of east Oakland shut to traffic.

Plus the ballistic assault shields that police are sporting more and more on SWAT assaults, if applicable.

What was he on parole for?

Assault with a deadly weapon. According to Oakland Tribune.

Another guy who should have been in prison, serving his full sentence, not out on parole. (But since he also had a warrant out, I suspect he also vioalted that parole).

I said I don’t know about the current mayor, but I followed Brown when he was mayor there and watched his interviews and followed the stats which showed that his way was not working. I have not followed the current mayor, I followed Brown because he was going on TV so often giving his mayoral advice.

I’m afraid of Truth and Free Speech? Why would I be afraid of that?

And you still haven’t explained where I am not who I say I am. Who am I, then?

There’s a level of detail about the injuries that you can’t get from casual observation, so I’m thinking either he or the reporter is getting creative. Head wounds are pretty messy, and you can’t tell much of anything unless you’re somebody who’s treating the patient. Bullets generally don’t sit on top of the skin where they can be observed, you usually have to probe to figure out where they are. So, it’s the combination of too much detail from someone with too little training that makes me skeptical. One or more with head wounds might be an accurate observation, though.

Motorcycle helmets are not protection against any centerfire round - he may have shot the two motorcycle officers that way.

Two of the police were shot multiple times in their heads. One of them through his helmet. [is that even possible?]

Oh yes, motorcycle helmets are not designed stop bullets, but rather to save brains when the head containing them hits the pavement or other fixed objects. Heck even military kevlar helmets are not really designed to stop rifle bullets, although they often will at least deflect them. They are designed to stop "shrapnel" and other flying debris from explosions.

This guy wasn’t a Mexican.

I understand that but your claim that there aren't too many "Mexicans" that live in Oakland is false.

13 terms in congress!!!!!!! Why do we keep recycling these guys? Reminds me of them electing Willie Brown mayor of San Francisco and what did he do? One thing was give the homeless carte blanc... and now we cycle Jerry Brown from the governors office to mayor of Oakland and back to AG and I’ve read he wants to be governor again. Dang I hate what has happened to California, but to quite Mark Levin, it is a roadmap of the rest of the nation unless people wake the heck up.

With our luck, after all the speculation, the perp will turn out to be an Amish tourist from Lancaster.

Not this time. Parolee from assault with a deadly weapon conviction. Apparently a local.

Yeah, you too!

I’m guessing just a hand gun in the car, and he got out shooting. Bikes don’t offer any cover. Probably a rifle at home. Puts me in mind of the CHP Newhall incident back in 70.
