may have produced a steam plume to 25,000 feet

So, with no lava - it's beginning to look like Mt. Redoubt just has indigestion and an upset tummy...

There's a big difference in Mt. Redoubt (St Helens and the rest of the volcanoes around the Pacific rim ) and the ones we have here. They're Composite volcanoes, tend to be explosive, create Lahars and all sorts of particulate matter into the air.

Hawaii's volcanoes are Shield types, less explosive but produce lava flows.....which is all that aggregate and particulate matter flowing down slope burning out the forests, towns, subdivisions in it's path.

One other distinction between these two types is we can get tourists to pay to see 'em.

And the problem with that is no amount of Pepto-Bismol will settle it. It just has to run its course. I still can't see the mountains. It would be comforting that the ash had settled if I could see them. And I want desperately to open A WINDOW! I need fresh air. LOL!
