A federal judge gave approval for Gold'n Plump Inc. and an employment agency to pay $1.35 million to settle lawsuits alleging religious discrimination against Muslims at a chicken processing plant in Cold Spring, Minn.
The money will go to 128 Somali Muslims who claim that St. Cloud-based Gold'n Plump violated their religious rights by refusing to allow them prayer breaks during work hours, and to another 28 workers who said a St. Paul employment agency, the Work Connection Inc., required them to sign forms acknowledging they would be required to handle pork.

Our country, our rules. Your country, your rules. Don’t dictate to us what you want from us when you come here .....
The $1.35 million settlement includes $985,000 for legal costs and $365,000 in cash payments to the 156 workers.
Or what? We will give you $1.35 million dollars? They drag our soldiers through the streets like animals and we let them live here, doing exponentially better than they ever could have; and they are still not satisfied.
$2300 each? Still far to much. Working during work hours and handling pork are conditions of employment in a meat packing plant.
If keeping halal is so gosh darned important, don’t get a job that isn’t, fer Christsake!
and a PAID BREAK TO GO PRAY.....I am sick over this..
Well I have to wonder how this would have turned out if they were white Christians.
I have to wonder if these companies once thought they were getting a good deal with cheap labor? And now we are headed down the road to Sharia when everything must take into account Muslim sensitivities, Muslim prayer times, Muslim holidays. Welcome to the dictatorship of the minorities.
I think there will be a big backlash towards Islam in the US. Schools being told they have to provide prayer rooms, foot baths ... when will supermarkets be told they have to cover pork and alcohol products. WalMart is going to set up a separate food section with carpets for Muslims ....
You are right to be, although I don’t want you sick. I feel like I am lost in a country of blobs, because no one has any backbone anymore. They just sort of ooze around wherever the momentum takes them.
My guess is that the company chose to settle was directly related to the sad reality of expensive legal fees, and not because they acknowledged any wrongdoing to the 156 employees. After all, $2340 per plaintiff is really still “nuisance value” in this day and age. Of course, the plaintiffs’ attorneys are the ones who really made out like gangbusters.
It is crazy. We don’t have the footbaths around here (yet) but when and if we do, I will be the first to take a protest dump in one.
Um, so if they were required to handle pork without having signed the document, are they saying they wouldn’t have sued? So what is the company supposed to do? How is signing a document stating you are aware of the work duties discrimination? Sounds like the company was trying to avoid any potential for a problem in a very responsible manner.
This is the kind of thing which infuriates me. Clearly giving special privileges to Muslims which would never be allowed to Christians.
I honestly wouldn’t care if Americans drug that judge through the streets.
they won.
this country is falling so fast
And then be charged with a hate crime ... here in Seattle we had a Muslim shoot up a Jewish office killing one woman and injuring seven others ... hate crime? Nope, defense is he was mentally unstable. If it was the other way round though ...
A nation gone mad!
I no longer live in the United States of America. It no longer exists.
Too late.
