I am more apt to believe that the Pittsburgh incident is government vs. peon, and that the Civic Center shootout was a terrorist sleeper cell incident.

It is possible that the terrorist new MO is to hit the small towns now so that nobody feels safe anywhere and we're all keeping our doors locked and living in isolated fear.

If the anti-gun nuts really cared about reducing gun crime—or any crime committed with a weapon—they would impose the death sentence on weapon-wielding perps.
But it is so much more couragous to indict the otherwise inanimate object—the gun.
Of course, the objective of anti-gun laws is political. They are championed by leftists who do not want the ordinary citizen to be capable of defending him or her self against the cloying embrace of socialism.

Back during Clinton's days, Neal Knox wrote a piece about how mass shootings always start happening when Congress is considering more gun control. Maybe that is really not too far off the mark. Tin foil hat stuff? ... maybe not.
It would seem um,...uneconomical, to *waste* that many terrorists, but then, they do have them to spare. Suicide bombers don't always get a better kill rate, so it is a possibility.
However, if their aim to spread terror, while it may work in some locales, it has too much potential to backfire. US citizens are not EU pantywaists. They will not put up with it for long and people will carry into gun free zones if they feel it necessary.
Allowing an armed citizenry can work just like it does in Switzerland.
I don't know if the fear factor has worn off or not. Certainly NOW with these incidents it will heighten again.
I was speaking to my son who lives in NYC. He moved there after 911 so he doesn't know how it was when the World Trade Center was there. But i can't imagine how people who were there before can walk past that site every day and NOT remember what happened. Did they just block it out of their minds? Or do they remember?
I watched a movie that made me think of this. It's called "Reign Over Me". About a guy who lost his mind after losing his family on 911. If you're not familiar it stars Adam Sandler doing an excellent job in a serious role. And it made me think "how many people are walking around NY like this guy?". He lost everything, his family, his job, his mind. And wouldn't that make NY a much more dangerous place to be?
