Poplawski's friends at the scene described him as a young man who thought the Obama administration would ban guns.

One friend, Edward Perkovic, said Poplawski feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon."

Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said he feared that President Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he "wasn't violently against Obama."

The story is very confused.
Media news stories are basically designed to drag viewers into watching the story. The “sound bite” blurbs coming from “so called” friends are disjointed and don’t explain much of anything other than an obvious media bias against firearms.
I think they must not teach the five “W’s” anymore. My sympathies to the families of the slain officers.

“This society is like a pressure cooker with the valve tied down, it’s about to pop!”

I agree. But when are the ‘right people’ going to be on the receiving end of the ‘pop’?

This is the sort of thing which would be used as a cause for banning private ownership of firearms.

Good thinking, Leni. Stand by for attacks, though.

This kid was a delusional nutjob and his thinking was just downright evil and well, stupid. Shooting hard working police officers with an AK-47 doesn’t help our political capital to keep an “assault weapons” ban at bay. As a responsible and happy owner of a modified Romarm WASR-10 AK-47, I’d like to kick this kid in the nuts.

This was no politician’s fault, this was this mentally ill kids fault.

While I understand how the guy felt, Obama is not going to take our guns away (although he will try).”

Obama may try but it will never get a hearing in subcommittee so long as Pelosi is speaker. She has already taken it off the table. The Democratic leadership still has 1994 seared in their brains.

Correct. I still haven't read in this story how the headline about his fearing a gun ban fits with the shooting of these officers. It sounds like this murderer is just insane.

One witness said he heard "hundreds" of shots.

I hope we get clear details soon.

Time to get ready for yet another attack on all gun owners because of this.

First, Prayers to the families of the victims, and the survivors of theses recent shootings. This is horrible.

You know......I’m not usually very conspiratorial, BUT......I say the families of the involved shooters need to be investigated. I would like to know if any of these shooter’s families are going to receive any sort of compensation or benefits in the long run. Again, I’m not a conspiracy nut, but it seems that any time gun control is on the table, these shootings happen more frequently. Could someone be looking specifically for some troubled person, talk to them about their frustrations, offer them money or support for their loved ones, and promise that they will be taken care of if this person simply goes on a rampage? Rampage occurs, then the issue of “gun” violence is back in the news.

Anyone else calling bs on this one? I smell a rat.

Two 'friends' who find the TV cameras to talk about his fear of Obama, his love of guns and his voting for McCain.

This is as fishy as Nancy Pelosi's gynecologist.

AQ has in the past found individuals such as this and has prompted them into performing acts such as this.

We just don’t hear much about it.

In the name of Homeland Security news of this has been buffered and discredited, case in fact was Timothy McVeigh.

Call bs on this one? I do too. If you’re afraid that the O is going to take away your gun, why would you further encourage that action by killing a bunch of people?? Makes no sense whatsoever.

I've been thinking about the common thread in the recent violence and hypersexualization of our culture -

#1 Oakland gunman. Any father figure in the felon's life, ever?

#2 This Pittsburgh cop killer had anger issues early on. He was kicked out of Marine boot camp for throwing a food tray at his drill sargeant. I've seen mention of his mother and grandparents. Any father figure ever in this guy's life?

#3 While non violent, the punk Levi is out trash talking Bristol Palin for a buck with his sister and drug dealing mother. Any father figure ever in this guy's life?

I think I'm seeing a pattern.

I have a couple of goose hunting partners that are Obamaniacs. They are more pro 2nd Amendment rights than several Republicans I know. IMHO gun rights is more rural vs. urban than R vs D. It’s just that most D’s are urban.

Furthermore, police are viewed in a psychological way as authority figures. For a person, specifically a man, who lacked that first authority figure growing up (dad), the police would serve as a logical target for that rage.

The number of fatherless people in the prison system is staggering. (I think over 70-75%)

This observation is akin to the shricnks saying children who are spanked are disruptive in the future. Attention psychologists, could this be because the children are taught right and wrong and are disruptive when the see wrong in their older years?

Fathers taught sons and daughters there is right and wrong. There are exceptions but they are exceptions that prove the rule because they establish the need for parternal rule teaching.
