It’s not the military version, but I believe the civilian version was awarded during the Third Reich.

A quote from the article: "Japanese industrial capacity simply could not sustain a long war against the U.S., who were by now also heavily involved in the Burma campaign.""

See why I'm grateful for the Smoot - Hawley Act?

Why? Because it gave the Japs a fighting chance?

If we keep shooting ourselves in the foot, the Japanese will leave us alone.

No, I still don't have any idea why you'd be grateful for an abomination like Smoot-Hawley

Okay, I'll insert this cut and paste very s-l-o-w-l-y

Victory in war and often economics/commerce matters, goes to them that get there firstest with the mostest.

Smoot-Hawley of course did cripple the 'Worlds' economic growth, but who would have benefited the most without it? The one's with the lowest labor costs, that being Japan and Germany.

Thus American/Allied lives were saved as our enemies just didn't have the vast industrial base to produce the stuff that war requires.

Do read the article. Captains discuss tactics, Generals discuss logistics.

You're trying to sell something here that doesn't exist. Smoot-Hawley did little or nothing to stop the German and Japanese war machine from developing but it certainly hurt our ability responding to it.

Instead of rambling on with your nonsense, let's look at some facts. When Germany invaded Poland, the U.S. Army ranked seventeenth in the world in size and combat power. That placed us behind Romania. Our equipment and weaponry were pretty much nonexistent. Soldiers trained with drainpipes for antitank guns, stovepipes for mortar tubes, and they used brooms for rifles. We, as a nation, built only six medium tanks in 1939. The Army's cavalry chief even went as far as to tell Congress in 1941 that four well spaced horsemen could charge half a mile across an open field to destroy an enemy machine gun nest without a casualty.

In the spring of 1940, while Germany employed 136 divisions to roll over Western Europe, our War Department reported that we could only field five divisions. Yeah, that Smoot-Hawley thing really hurt the German's capabilities.

The depression, worsened by the stupidity of Smoot-Hawley, and FDR's new deal left us totally unprepared for war. Thank goodness two large oceans separated us from our enemies and that Hitler chose to attack Russia, before England was finished, and we won the Battle of Midway.

Our enemies absolutely had the industrial base to produce what war required. Most of the world had been conquered by time we entered the war. Saying that Smoot-Hawley helped our war effort defies history and is just about as dumb a thing as I've ever heard. I can't wait to share that claim with my dad tonight when I have dinner with him. He loves a good laugh. His first combat jump (82nd Airborne) was D-Day minus one. He fought in Market Garden and in the Battle of the Bulge. One of his brothers fought in a tank though North Africa and was at Kasserine Pass. He managed to live to tell stories about how superior the German tanks were. But the trade war of the 1930's hurt their manufacturing capabilities? LOL! Too bad he's gone. He would also get a good laugh from your nonsense.

Captains discuss tactics, Generals discuss logistics.

Statists discuss the merits and supposed good the government can do.

Do read the article.

Do start advocating for liberty.

It’s not even worth it. I don’t see the reason behind following someone from thread to thread whenever their argument fails on the first.
