As Texas Goes, So Goes the Nation on Textbooks
By: Dr. Charles Garner and David Klinghoffer
The Washington Examiner
April 8, 2009
Texas last week was the scene of a stirring illustration of democracy at work as the State Board of Education (SBOE) set itself the task of revising standards for science education, debating fundamental controversies in biology, paleontology and chemistry. The radioactive topic of evolution was the center of attention.
When the dust settled, the resulting vote left Texas with the most advanced science standards on evolution of any state in the country. As you can imagine, many experts and activists on the Darwinian side are outraged...

Ping!
Pingety-ping right back at ya :o)
Darwinistas are up in arms — GOOD!
Three cheers for academic freedom!
Enough of this “scientifically correct” lock-step garbage!
Ping education
Wait till I get my popcorn this could be long and exciting thread. ;-)
BRAVO!!!!
Amazingly, this is the first I’ve heard of all this great uproar and evo-angst that’s been going on for the last week.
Then again, they could always do what I’d do, i.e. have some sort of a warning label inside biology books saying something like “Warning, belief in the brain-dead ideological doctine known as the theory of evolution which is described in this book, has been shown to cause positive loss of as many as 30 IQ points in laboratory animals and yuppies.”
Wow, where have you been, I have been reading all kinds of articles on this controversy for about a week!
LOL :o)
...not to mention scientists, let alone teachers and students!
At last, some good news!
That was my first reaction too :o)
Can I post a cartoon now? :o)
I don’t know about that, but it could have a profound impact on science textbooks throughout the nation!
LOLOL!
Er, no?
You’re worse than my mom!
Nice one...I could use some of that lotion myself!
I have been at work, at class, and at home.
I'll probably get flamed for this, but I find most of the articles a creationist websites to be too blatantly self-aggrandizing to take seriously.
What do you know about who writes the text books for public education? I know of a 'writer' who is out and out 'red' socialist who writes text books. I am not convinced there won't be a lawsuit that the supremes will come down again on the side of the God did not do it crowd.
Schools are still able to select their books (book adoption)-—but just barely.
That being said, there are, indeed, writers/publishers who are redder than red.
Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!
Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!
Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev’ry test
O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.
(chorus)
Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,
Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.
(chorus)
Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes, we come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.
Chorus
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.
The reason why is because Texas only adopts ONE textbook for the ENTIRE state. Therefore, they tend to set the trend for most of the nation.
You are perfectly entitled to your opinion. However, this article was not written by creationists, it was written by IDers. Surely, by now, you know the difference!
Given your prolific crationism prostilization, you have probably written most of those articles.
I have recently heard that phrase from Bill Ayers and Ward Churchill.
Believe me, I have thought about it!
In a recent law suit the difference was shown to be global text search and replace in a set of documents. The judge was not amused.
The judge was an ACLU-loving RINO. And now that Obama-messiah is in office, I’m sure he is amused year-round.
Judge copied ACLU in anti-intelligent design ruling

==I have recently heard that phrase from Bill Ayers and Ward Churchill.
And that helps your case how? Bill Ayers and Ward Churchill both worship at the Temple of Darwinistic Materialism.
Texas adopts one LIST of books, not just one title. Each district, and sometimes each school or teacher can select the one they want. They can buy ‘off-list’, but not with state money.
Why?
Because there is no such thing as a religiously, politically, or culturally neutral education. An education is either godless or God-centered and both have profound non-neutral religious, political, and cultural consequences.
The above is axiomatic.
No matter what the government forces on parents, children, and the taxpayer, the government will establish either the godless religious worldview or the God-centered one. Is it any wonder there are such bitter political fights over evolution?
Get the government out of the education business. Begin the process of privatizing universal K-12 education, immediately.
Fortunately all my children are out of public education, even though I get to pay for the continuance of the liberal indoctrination to all those that come after. I have been year in and year out dismayed by the inconsistent method of teaching any given subject. Some years 'science' books were not allowed to leave the classroom, because they were supposedly so expensive to have each student have their own. And there was a 10 minute time allowance on 'parent's' night to glance through the textbook.
From year to year it was always something 'new' and completely out of step with what had been used the prior year. One year in middle school one of my children had three different math books, and the class was teaching to the end of the year 'state' required test.
Personally, I believe public education has been conservatives biggest misstep and the core reason why we are where we are today. The powers that be have gone along to get along ignoring what goes for education in K-12. And these public school teachers and administrators/counselors do not like to be questioned.
Rush describes this nation as being 'bi-polar', well imho, it was done by design via public education using what is commonly called the scientific methodology.
Sounds good to me!
It is amusing that the Discovery Institute found that the judge used search and replace in his judgment. I call it Karma. DI transformed “Of Pandas and People” from a Creationist document to and ID document with search and replace. What goes around comes around. LOL
Ok, a list. It is still the second largest textbook market in the country, precisely because they select books for the ENTIRE STATE, list or not. This has a significant impact on how textbook publishers write their textbooks for the rest of the country.
The the Darwinists are up in arms for what reason again? What part of it is it that they don't like? The analysis, evaluation, and critiquing? Or the logical reasoning? Or the critical thinking?
The selection process is based on teachers getting together and looking at the samples that are sent to each district/school. Then, with their input, the board makes the selections for the list. I am not sure what your problem with this process is.
Why am I not surprised that yet another Evo on FR identifies with RINO sellouts and the communist ACLU?
Hear! Hear! The total separation of school and state is the only way to go. Let parents choose if they want their children to be taught that their ancestors were monkeys or that God shaped them in His own image. The two world views are forever incompatible.
They are up in arms because there stranglehold over your children just got a little weaker.
God Bless TX, and the faithful people there; if it seceedes, I am moving there right afterward!
It’s a done deal...The Evos lost this one, big time!
That’s good! I was talking Secession, as in if they ever want complete freedom from Washington, again! God Bless!
I have no problem with the process. All I was really trying to say is that Texas is one of the most influential textbook markets in the country.
Just an update on a public education issue.
Ooops! I mistook secedes for succeeds! Time to strengthen the magnification level on my reading glasses 8o)
