NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) -- Pirates and U.S. warships are racing to the spot in the Indian Ocean where an American sea captain is being held hostage by a handful of pirates.
A Nairobi-based diplomat says the pirates holding Capt. Richard Phillips have summoned assistance. He says skiffs and motherships are heading toward the area from the coast.

I wonder if NOW - Now that he has allowed this to escalate into a REAL International crisis, our Dip-Shiite in Chief will finally make a "statement" about it HIMSELF, instead of sending out a seemingly enless stream of his lackeys, toadies, henchmen, cohorts, colleagues and sychophantic-lap-dogs to laugh hysterically while talking about it.
Piracy and terrorism will end when we decide that the ratio of casualties should be 10,000 to one. Take a hostage? We bomb your area until we're sure that 10,000 men, women and children are dead. A suicide bomber kills 25 people? We drop a nuke with the intention of killing 250,000 of your men, women and children.
We just don't have the balls to deal with this stuff. The Romans knew -- make a desert and call it Peace.
I hope someone has captured Hillary’s response (cackle) for posterity.
Now, Obama has dithered and allowed the pirates to formulate a strategy, using their hostages. O has delayed himself into a box.
Or better still, he could swallow his pride and consult with a real man, like Dubya.
Or if that's too discouraging for him, he could go talk to old Maggie Thatcher, she'd put some Stiffereen in his spine. I'm sure Sarah Palin wouldn't mind if he interrupted them for a moment.
Your countrymen are back in business, just as we're about to go back to getting our butts whipped all over the globe.

Damn, this is so frustrating, and still not a word from the Bozo in chief!! What the hell is he waiting for?

Two observations:
1.) It was a mistake not to jam the pirates’ satellite phones.
2.) It will be a bigger mistake to let them leave the area with our hostage. (Maybe, just maybe, offer them safe passage in return for the lives of the other hostages.)
It has more to do with the basic fact that the west has no stomach for civilian casualties. The only time we would be willing to attack is if we managed to get them on their boat on their way to a hijacking, other than that they make very sure they have civilians with them, be it Somalis or hostages.
There is a solution to the problem, but the number of governments willing to make the move is small.
Take out strongholds since we know where they are and sink any boat that looks like a pirate ship.
“Operation kill pirates” needs to start, like yesterday.
What would happen if we dropped a Harpoon missile in the side of the first ship that came anywhere near the area? The pirates would face the inevitablity of being at the mercy of the Navy in minutes. Would they kill their hostages or hope for mitigation? It’s worth trying.
This sounds to me like a great opportunity to rid the world of a whole bunch of these reprobates. Sink everything that comes close.
These people have no fear because we have a Muslim sending the FBI to Negotiate.
