Man booked in connection with Terrytown triple murder

A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with Saturday's execution-style triple murder in Terrytown, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office announced.

Dayshawn Young, of 916 East Monterey Court, Apartment D, in Terrytown, was arrested after investigators identified Young as one of the two suspects believed to be involved in the killing, said Col. John Fortunato, JPSO spokesman. He was booked on three counts of first degree murder and one count of attempted first degree murder.

The identity of the second suspect in the shooting remains unknown to investigators, Fortunato said.

Four Overstreet, 6, Domonique Sterling, 19, and Sterling's 23-month-old son, Robert Claiborne Jr., were shot to death by intruders early Saturday at an apartment complex at 945 East Monterey Court. An 11-year-old girl was wounded.

Sterling was watching over her own son, young Four and the surviving girl when two men dressed in dark clothing kicked down the apartment's front door about 3:45 a.m. and burst in.

They shot Sterling in the back in the living room, authorities said. They then shot the 11-year-old girl several times in a bedroom before shooting Four and baby Robert in the head, execution-style, in another bedroom.

Four Overstreet died at the hospital. Sterling and her son were dead by the time paramedics arrived, Fortunato said.

The 11-year-old was transferred in stable condition Saturday afternoon from the Interim LSU Public Hospital to Children's Hospital.

One of the attackers, described as being in his 20s, wore a red bandanna over his face, a black baseball cap and a dark hooded sweatshirt.

A followup to an article posted yesterday. It appears the authorities may have nabbed one.

Unlike Orleans, Jefferson Parish has a functional law enforcment agency. I knew they’d roll these guys up in short order.

I’m still waiting for a possible motive to come out. What motive could you have for killing two young children though? Not to mention one of the children’s mother.

St. Tammany seems to have a well functioning LEO too. We had a cabbie murdered the other day and they had the killer almost immediately. Good Job.

Officials claim they also located crack cocaine and marijuana inside the apartment. One of the men has been reported as possibly wearing a red bandana scarf across the front of his face, a black baseball cap and a dark hooded sweatshirt.

Police said they found spent shell casings along with crack cocaine and marijuana on the scene.

Rayshika Overstreet, 29, Four’s mother, who arrived on the scene later, was subdued with a Taser after she became belligerent with police and struck an officer and struggled with another officer, police said.

She was charged with interfering with the police, resisting arrest by fighting, battery on a police officer, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile because of the narcotics seized from her apartment and possession of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana, police said.

Byron Estes, 28, Overstreet’s boyfriend, will be booked with possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, along with the same contributing to the delinquency charge as Overstreet, police said.

Overstreet and Estes lived in the apartment of the murders, and the drugs found in the apartment belonged to them, according to police.

Estes has multiple prior arrests for narcotics violations, police said, and was recently released from federal prison on a drug charge.

Overstreet has prior arrests, police said, for possession of crack cocaine, simple battery, domestic abuse battery, theft charges along with attachment arrests.

I'm reading from that link I posted above. So, this young woman's family, ran to Houston during Katrina. Slept in the Astrodome for weeks. Then moved to a hotel for months in Tennesee.

Its a shame they weren't able to make a life for themselves there..anywhere. Before they decided to come back to this hell hole in the New Orleans area.

This dude turned himself in according to another article. That article says they suspect drugs was involved in some manner as they found crack cocaine and marijuana in the apartment owned by Rayshika Overstreet, who was the mother of the six year old boy that was killed.

I’ve read what you posted before but thank you for posting it for others. I still can’t see how any kind of possible drug disputes could justify the killing of babies. It’s sick.

Hopefully more info will come out in the next few days. The LEA’s down here never seem to give out much until they have a solid suspect. I think that is a good thing.
