I loved every moment of Sarah's seven part speech.

I am forwarding them to my group, with sincere thanks for the effort to get them out there on such a timely fashion.

By a VA Ridgerunner, are you talking "Skyline Drive" or "Blueridge Parkway". The latter is my favorite. Waynesboro to the exit to Lexington.

I have five very favorite drives in the country (and I know there are many): Blueridge Parkway; Red Lodge, MT into the NE Gate of Yellowstone, over the "Beartooth" Pass; Cooke City, MT to Cody, WY, down the "Trail of Tears"; the "inside Jenny Lake Road" in the Tetons; and the Malibu Canyon road from I-101 to the Coast. Talk about some memories for this scribe.

My Grandparents had a farm outside of Greenville, between Lexington and Staunton, when I was a teenager many years ago. I totally loved my summers there from Los Angeles. Talk about a very different world and a very good one at that.

while i would agree with you in general, us politics is filled with stories of guys who would make Lazarus blush.

In 1920 FDR is the VP on the ticket that suffers the biggest landslide defeat to that point in us history. Then he proceeds to get polio and become a cripple. Nonetheless, 12 years later he manages to win a landslide victory and become the longest serving, and most powerful US president in history basically ushering in an entire generation of liberal/democratic control, the basic strcuture of which is still the same Dem Party we see in power today

In 1960, Nixon loses a close race. He then suffers an embarassing loss in the CA gov race and has his famous press conference(”You won’t have Nixon to kick around anymore”). His political career is over, and he is given his last rites. 8 years later he wins in a 3 way race and in 1972 wins the most EV ever.

Bill Clinton was given up for dead countless times.

More recently throughout the spring and summer John McCain was an object of ridicule and his odds on intrade dipped to below 1.

Hillary Clinton was unbeatable in the dem primary. It wasn’t even supposed to a race at all, but a coronation.

As of Sep 12th or thereabouts, McCain had a lead in the polls, a better than 50% chance of winning on intrade, momentum, energy, etc... Things were looking good. Then on 9/15 Lehman collapsed triggering a huge crisis and panic that led to AIG, Merrill Lynch, Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, countless other banks and busineesses going under, the markets losing close to a third of their value in a matter of weeks including days of +700 losses, and the country entered its worst economic quarter GDP and jobs wise since the recession of 1982. So much for things looking good. None of that was McCain’s or Palin’s fault but it happened.

If we learned anything from history it’s that anything can happen. Who knows what the future holds.

The economy could tank so badly or there could be some terror attack or who knows what that would make Obama look so bad that a GOP ticket of Dole(Bob)/McCain could end up winning comfortably on 2012. Who knows? The economy could turn around and things could look so good that our 2012 nominee may as well give their acceptance speech in Bataan instead of the convention.

So, while I’d agree taht Newt probably won’t be the guy, I’d never rule anything or anyone out.

There was a thread earlier about her daughter’s former boyfriend and father of her grandchild. The hatred for Palin was apparent on that thread, by conservatives/republicans. Surprised me.

Sorta drove home the point that we do eat our own.

It's amazing how conservatives still fall for the tricks of the media even though they claim to hate the MSM.

The media knows where to split conservatives...it's usually in the area of sexual, and/or family issues.

Same thing happened with Mark Foley. Conservatives fell for MSM tactics...and it got us Nancy Pelose and a House directed from San Francisco.

I don’t know much about the Foley/Pelosi race. But with Palin, we see conservatives trashing her and using MSM talking points to do so. That surprises me. I like her. I’d rather see her wait until 2016, though, since I think Obama is a two term president (short of a miracle).

It just surprises me that so many conservatives trash her as the MSM and Dems do. There’s no “perfect” person and even Reagan had a freaky family.

The good news is that in todays world the good ole boy network is much less powerful. The Dems good ole boy network wanted nothing to do with Obama and he went around them and forced their hand. You think the gold ole boys wanted McCain?

I think her main hope is to get women voters on a par that Hillary did.

It would have worked for Hillary if not for the fact that a whole bunch of states with heavy black populations voted early and the race was over before states like OH, PA and TX could vote, not to mention states like FL and MI not counting.

Meanwhile all the heavily black states like SC, VA, MD, LA, etc.. voted early and gave Obama such huge margins that it was too big to overcome. That SC win was huge. She had just won in MI and FL and then SC goes huge for him and revies his campaign that hadn’t won in close to a month. It gave him momentum going into Super Tuesday, where big wins in his home state of IL and heavily black states like GA and AL along with the rigged caucuses allowed him to say close with her big wins in NY and CA. Then it was his huge wins in heavily black states like LA, MD, VA and DC taht gave him huge momentum after Super Tuesday and totally demoralized her(it was at that point the media gave up on her and proclaimed him the winner), basically won Wisconsin for him and gave him a margin that even with her wins in OH< TX, PA, IN, KY , WV, IN, etc... was too big to overcome because of this stupid proportional system the dems have.

Basically it all came down to the fate of the calendar. If OH, TX and PA voted in early Feb instead of VA, MD and LA, Hillary is the President today. Oh well.

The corollary of that is that black women were the only group of women that didn’t vote big for Hillary.

Well, there really aren’t any blacks or black women in the GOP(a very miniscule <1%) so that won’t be an issue. Palin could have the women to herself. There won’t be another candidate who can appeal and siphon off a huge demographic like Obama could, not to mention a key part of their opponent’s targeted demographic.

The voters are pretty much all white, all christian(mostly protestant), older, etc...

So, if it comes down to say Palin and a few other guys(Romney, Huckabee, Gingrich, Hunstman, Pawlenty, Sanford, etc...) Palin’s main hope lies in getting a sizeable bloc of the female vote and doing well enough with the guys and she should be in good shape. No one else really has a tie to a demographic like that.

Romney would if states like UT and NV decided things, but they don’t.

The bad news is that Gov Sanford will win SC and Romney seemingly has a lock on NH without McCain around. Without early wins she’d be finished early or forced to try a Rudy like strategy and we all know how that worked out.

Her best hopes lie with Sanford and Romney deciding not to run. If they do, I think she’d have to win in IA(but Huckabee already has a HUGE netowrk there), and then hope that folks decide SC doesn’t matter like they did when Harkin won IA for the dems in 92, and hope to win a big state or two like FL, CA, OF, etc... Its way too early as we don’t even know the schedule yet.

McCain could help big time in NH and I doubt he really wants to see Mitt win anything, so if he’s the big obstacle I could see McCain helping, at the least he has a big network and contacts and things that could really help.

It’s still so far off, though, but it’s fun to think about. At least it gets your mind of the current administration.

My big fear is that if the False One’s approval ratings are strong in 2012, the Good Ole boy RNC might decide to make Palin, the sacrificial lamb and give her little or no support in fundraising and grass root efforts. GOP officials will sit back and let the media and the False One savagely attack her.

First half was a bit hokey - and Gov. Palin needs to lay off of the “I’m persecuted all the time” mantra, as it makes her sound whiney.

Second half was solid, very solid.

No. If she wants to win the Presidency she needs to win over the RINO (and independents) the way Reagan did.

It can be done with a smile and an appeal to common sense.

She should read Reagans speeches.

“The media will do everything possible to spin the news cycle for him. Plus the economy could improve by 2011. The Messiah will be hailed the greatest President of all time.”

The economy won’t dramatically improve until consumers have money in their pocket to consume and buy goods. That requires decent paying jobs. The 2010 tax hikes are going to guarantee that jobs come back more slowly, and that the economy stays sluggish.

Additionally, they are going to attempt to pass government health care. The TEA parties will turn into a march on Washington when it comes to crunch time on this one.

The media hype machine will be on full display, and he will be hailed as the greatest ever. I think both of those will lead to lower turnout amongst “core” lib/dem constituencies.
