Forever on guard [Asked if there could ever be another Holocaust, survivor warns: 'Why not?']

Dr. Truda Rosenberg couldn't be there this year. Yesterday at the War Museum, the annual Holocaust commemoration ceremony. Normally she is, often as a speaker. The speaker, the most important one, but this year she had usurping commitments, Dr. Truda Rosenberg, 87, Ottawa psychologist still practising, and whose words on the most horrific brutality ever inflicted on human beings by sick, evil animals called human beings need telling now more than ever in a world of the sickness and evil rising again, failing the lesson of history.

Soon, not too many years from now, there won't be anymore Truda Rosenbergs who suffered it, who survived it; the state-endorsed genocide of a mentally-ill sado-masochist racist named Adolf Hitler whose mesmerizing tongue convinced enough post-First World War impoverished, gullible Germans under the rule of his Third Reich that the Jews were the cause of their oppression, needed to be exterminated -- sieg heil to the Master Race.

Six million European Jews wiped off the map in the ovens of his death camps.

"Dr. Rosenberg," I ask over coffee in her bright, spacious condo high above the city, "could there ever be another Holocaust?"

"If we have enough idiots," she says, evenly, "why not?"

The prime idiot of idiots is on the planet, the gimlet-eyed snake Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, president of Iran, who this week was once again condemned by the UN for his anti-Semitic spewings at a "human rights" conference in Geneva where he pumped out his favourite mantra that Israel is the source of all racism and violence in the world; his coda for Israel Must Be Annihilated.

Delegates from some 30 EU countries up and walked out on him; disturbingly others applauded him; and yesterday as the Holocaust Remembrance Day sirens sounded across Israel and the nation's Jews stopped in their tracks wherever they were, whatever they were doing, for the two-minute silence, the speaker of the Knesset, Reuven Rivlin, said: "Yesterday the world witnessed the return of Adolf Hitler."

DAD SHOT, KILLED

Silly, extreme, paranoia, you say? There were many who thought it was extreme, silly, paranoia when another man of foresight, Winston Churchill, once warned the world of another dangerous tyrant rising from the weeds: The real Hitler.

"My father was a lawyer in Lwow, the city where we lived in Poland," says Dr. Rosenberg. "Two weeks after the Germans came in, July 1941, he didn't come home from work one day. He'd been rounded up with some others and shot and killed. The Nazis considered us sub-human, not people at all."

Her name was Gertruda Osterman then, 19 years old, an only child, a university student studying international economics. The streets were unsafe for Jews; full of marauding German soldiers and their Polish collaborators. With two friends, Rosenberg escaped to Romania, but they were soon caught by the Nazis and herded into a large hall with other terrified Jews. Her arms and legs were bound by ropes. "I witnessed murder-suicides. A doctor killed his wife and children by injecting them with an overdose of morphine and then he swallowed a pill that took his own life."

Rosenberg and the group were then transported by their captors across the river back into Poland, held overnight in a schoolyard where the bullying Germans screamed they were not to talk or move a muscle, and then they were marched 62 km to the cattle train that was to take them to the death camp, Belzec. Two of her aunts, who would later be killed by the Germans, were among the large group.

Two young boys in the cattle car asked the petite Truda if she wanted to try jumping out a small window. Yes. "I went out feet first, holding on to the window ledge with my hands, and waited for the boys to tell me to jump." When they did she catapulted herself away from the train, rolled down an embankment into a field.

At this point in our conversation Dr. Truda Rosenberg is becoming emotional, not wishing to impart the ensuing details which, she says, will be in her soon-to-be-released book Unmasked chronicling her survival experiences, insights, and gained wisdom.

All she will say is that using a bogus identification as a Roman Catholic she eventually made her way to England, trained as a nurse, and worked in a hospital. She was sitting with nursing colleagues when one of them said it was a pity Hitler didn't kill all of the Jews, that Jews only want to be doctors, they'd never accept being a "poorly-paid" nurse.

"I waited until she was finished. And then revealed: "I am a nurse and I am a Jew."

In 1951, Truda Rosenberg came to Canada, Victoria, studied to become a public health nurse, switched to psychology on the recommendation of a professor, and earned her PhD.

I ask her if, today, she harbours hatred for Germans. "No. Not at all." Does she think there are Jews who'll never forgive? "It depends on their level of Jewishness. Jewishness has always been about compassion, forgiveness, not carrying grudges, giving a helping hand to everybody who needs one. I said everybody."

I ask about her mother. A pause. "My mother was murdered by the Nazis." Then, a wistful smile. "She used to call me Little Truda. The last time I ever saw her she held me close and I put my head on her shoulder. The last thing she ever said to me was, "Don't let anything destroy your Jewish soul."

And her daughter hasn't. And never will. Not Truda Rosenberg. Not -- let the barking, rabid, evil-intentioned dogs know -- any Jew.

How heartbreaking. God bless her and the millions like her who suffered unimaginable atrocities at the hands of sadistic evildoers. From the sounds emanating from the Middle East, this most certainly will happen again - only it will be Christians alongside the Jews.

Of course there could be genocide and holocausts in the future.

I don’t know if history tells us that Hitler planned to exterminate Jews and other “undesirables” from day one, but history tells us that he consolidated his power and eliminated political enemies and political institutions in Germany that could oppose his absolute power. It took time for events to unfold and set the stage for what happened.

We’ve seen other holocausts and genocide since the holocaust. Pol Pot in Cambodia comes to mind.

Absolute power can lead to these events happening. Hitler may have thought such plans were unthinkable, but when he got absolute power, many things became possible.

If one had gone around Germany shortly before The Great War saying "Within the time span of one generation you guys will be gassing and incinerating people by the trainload", one would have been put in an insane asylum.

Somewhere I read that Hitler got the genocide idea after he saw how the world did nothing about the Turkish Holocost of Armenians

Fools. They are still looking back 70 years for a danger that has long been eradicated.

The real, current, very active threat to Jews is Islam. Through illegal immigration, the Muslim population is increasing much faster than the rest of the population in Europe. In France and the UK, whole suburbs are already controlled by Muslims. Moreover, the Muslims children, born citizen, will exert a political influence as a massive voting block. This is the fate that awaits the US too, barring radical changes in immigration policies.

Once Muslims are a sizeable force in a country, this country stops being able to favor and protect Israel. In other words, once elections in the US and Europe are determined by the Muslim vote, Israel is at the mercy of its neighbors, particularly Iran. And Jews in said country are under constant harassment from Muslims.

THAT is the real danger. And yet all Jews are doing is looking under their bed for Hitler, and searching for white oppressors in churches. Meanwhile, Liberal Jewish intellectuals still parade in the media to push for more legal — Muslim — immigration.

When an atomic cloud raises over Tel-Aviv, will they look for a Nazi conspiracy?

Wake up before it’s too late!

After listening to my fellow NY Jews skewer Sarah Palin endlessly, I've come to the conclusion that they are some of the most bigoted people I have ever met.

When *I* say a kind word about Palin, the uniform response (and I mean EVERY time), is to look at me as if I have two heads.

They'd rather see Tel Aviv as rubble than cast a vote for a pro-life Christian. This is a very sad truth.

Sad. This reminds me of a Jewish guy I knew. Binational, Israeli and American passports. He voted for the Likoud ‘at home’ (in Israel) and for the Democrats in the US. Not a very consistent attitude.

I attended a (Christian) Easter service recently. The Hebrew from the Torah was cited, the pastor explained the significance of the various symbols for the Jews, and an Israeli flag was hanging in the background. This was an ordinary group of Christians, and all of them were fervent supporters of Israels and were promoting understanding of “our Jewish friends”.

Yet many Jews are spitting hatred toward Christians.

Historically, the Jews have always been despising their friends and brownnosing their oppressors. This flabbergasting attitude took its toll. I am afraid that the Muslims will finish the work started by Uncle Adolf and Uncle Joe.

And this time, they’ll not make the same mistake. They’ll neutralize America first.
