A new Associated Press reveals only 17 percent of self-described political independents think America is “heading in the right direction” under Barack Obama. It seems higher taxes, higher spending, higher debt and nationalizing industry isn’t winning over independent voters.
“The percentage of Americans who believe Elvis is or might still be alive is higher than that of political independents who think Obama has America heading in the right direction,” says Libertarian National Committee spokesman Donny Ferguson.

Obama picked up 3 points over Kerry from Republicans and 3 points over Kerry from Independents with a 7 point gain over Kerry from Catholics and even a 3 point gain from Kerry with Evangelicals.
Heck... I’m an “independent”. And I am more conservative/constitutionalist than most.
The simple fact is that even the Republican Party is too far left for me these days.

Well, these independents had better wake the hell up. They helpded put this president (small p) into office and ajoined him to this not for prime time congress majority.

Well, on that basis I am an Independent as well.
However, I believe the article was referring to the consistently over-emphasized, mushy moderates, who don’t seem to know what they believe in.
I don't think that you understand, they are independent, they are not a group or an ideology or a party. Independents are people of all persuasions and beliefs that do not register into any of our 51 parties. There is no "they" there, you have to address each one individually.
These polls are screwy and how do you find an independent? The good news hopefully is if Indep give Hussein a 17% favoribility then that is incredibly low.
Also this is an AP Poll? I am getting the slight impression based upon GE shareholders screaming, the dying newspapers including the AP that the liberal newsmedia might be getting a clue. I think they are starting to realize in their dying gasps that their liberal content may be causing their demise. They will go to the grave making the same mistakes.
How is this possible? The AP’s headline about this latest “poll” told us he is regarded as the best thing since slice bread or Jesus!
