Possibility of Bio-Terrorism in Swine Flu Outbreak
April 25, 2007 | freedomfighter1013

Posted on 04/25/2009 5:51:39 AM PDT by FreedomFighter1013

In a discussion this morning with a cell biologist and medical doctor working at Johns Hopkins, my friend thought this 4-part flu combination is highly unusual and looks like it could be man-made. Especially because it has an avian strain. My doctor friend (he's Taiwanese) explained that in Asia, it's common for a avian-swine-human flu to happen naturally, but this virus first showed up in Mexico, where pigs and ducks are not usually raised together. Also, recombination of more than 2-different flu viruses is extremely rare. I'm just repeating what he said as an expert in the field. He says the CDC needs to explain if there is a possibility that we are under a bio-weapon attack.

From CDC via Wikipedia: Anne Schuchat, director of CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said that the American cases were found to be made up of genetic elements from four different flu viruses -- North American swine influenza, North American avian influenza, human influenza A virus subtype H1N1, and swine influenza virus typically found in Asia and Europe. For two cases a complete genome sequence had been obtained. She said that the virus was resistant to amantadine and rimantadine, but susceptible to oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza).[22][23][24] Preliminary genetic characterization found that the hemagglutinin (HA) gene was similar to that of swine flu viruses present in U.S. pigs since 1999, but the neuraminidase (NA) and matrix protein (M) genes resembled versions present in European swine flu isolates. Viruses with this genetic makeup had not previously been found to be circulating in humans or pigs, but there is no formal national surveillance system to determine what viruses are circulating in pigs in the U.S.[25] The seasonal influenza strain H1N1 vaccine is thought to be unlikely to provide protection.[26]

There is a report about a Texas family being placed under quarantine. They were just ribbing the extremists over the DHS report about any paranoid plans for government internment camps. They didn't mention quarantines!

What will you do if they demand that people take an experimental vaccine? More "stimulus" for the Obama administration?

I don’t get vaccines- I do get tetanus shots at regular intervals. No one is giving me a vaccine against my will.

This is the pandemic scenario that the Martin Landau character (Dr Kurzweil)
in The X-Files movie spelled out, although it's a fake Hantavirus Pandemic
in that scenario. Orchestrated virus Pandemic followed by declaration of
National Emergency. FEMA does the rest.
I think it started in south Texas in that as well (the fictional pandemic in the film).
Are they using the same writers???

Someone on another site is claiming that the vaccine being administered in
Mexico is the vaccine for human H1n1, the regular flu shot. No confirmation on
this. But there would be no logical reason to think that would work for this.
If there is mercury (or other toxins) in it it could actually weaken the immune
systems and health of the human subjects.

This whole thing stinks.

Update: doctor friend also says that what is also unusual is that this type/combination virus is the based on the same strain as in the 1918 Spanish flu virus (H1N1) outbreak (extremely deadly, 25 million dead in 25 weeks; total dead 50-100 million dead; 2.5%-5% of the world population). This makes the virus extremely deadly. The likelihood that this combination with the most deadly strain would happen naturally is very, very low.

No, this is not correct. Your doctor friend is mixing up different subtypes of Swine H1N1 and Human H1N1 they are not the same. Furthermore the 1918 flu strain was a subtype of Avian strain H1N1. However, we should be concerned about this and I am very interested to check out the sequence of the strain that is circulating now. Ping me when you see that it is sequenced.

Like the pirate circus, I think this is another distraction.

Maybe. I think though, after seeing the CDC talking head, that there is in fact more to this than they are letting on.

Time will tell.

Seems like too broad a weapon to be used as bioterrorism.

Fidel has maintained a bio weaponry research program for decades. Now that the socialist-in-chief is encouraging his caucus commies to normalize trips to Cuba, look for the bio hazards to increase in the U.S.

What's the result - increase in government control, panic, gets Obama's economic policies off page one, quarantines set up, vaccine sales for cartel supporters. More "stimulus" for Fedzilla.

Never down on a guy’s success but the accolades for Pitt’s acting nuts was just kind of silly. Not sure which got too much, him or the movie itself.

“Please tell me you are not suggesting they havent thought of this on their own and that by reading this thread light bulbs went off in their heads on how they can kill the infidels by the millions.”

Not at all. I’m referring to the news reports, not this thread. Also, no, I don’t think the average terrorist is all that bright — one of several reasons we haven’t been hit again so far.

So you are abandoning your original position that drug companies did this to profit from Tamiflu?

Our discussion is over.

Last year there was a bid stink about a government report that recommended rationing in the event of a medical crisis. They specifically recommended that the elderly, the disabled and diabetics NOT receive medical care. Only the healthiest were to be treated.

I’ll try to find it, but I remember it well. My son is a type 1 diabetic, so it kind of burned into my heart.

Who should MDs let die in a pandemic? Report offers answers
By LINDSEY TANNER, AP Medical Writer 26 minutes ago

CHICAGO - Doctors know some patients needing lifesaving care won’t get it in a flu pandemic or other disaster. The gut-wrenching dilemma will be deciding who to let die.

Now, an influential group of physicians has drafted a grimly specific list of recommendations for which patients wouldn’t be treated. They include the very elderly, seriously hurt trauma victims, severely burned patients and those with severe dementia.
The suggested list was compiled by a task force whose members come from prestigious universities, medical groups, the military and government agencies. They include the Department of Homeland Security, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Health and Human Services.

The proposed guidelines are designed to be a blueprint for hospitals “so that everybody will be thinking in the same way” when pandemic flu or another widespread health care disaster hits, said Dr. Asha Devereaux. She is a critical care specialist in San Diego and lead writer of the task force report.

The idea is to try to make sure that scarce resources including ventilators, medicine and doctors and nurses are used in a uniform, objective way, task force members said.

Their recommendations appear in a report appearing Monday in the May edition of Chest, the medical journal of the American College of Chest Physicians.

“If a mass casualty critical care event were to occur tomorrow, many people with clinical conditions that are survivable under usual health care system conditions may have to forgo life-sustaining interventions owing to deficiencies in supply or staffing,” the report states.

To prepare, hospitals should designate a triage team with the Godlike task of deciding who will and who won’t get lifesaving care, the task force wrote. Those out of luck are the people at high risk of death and a slim chance of long-term survival. But the recommendations get much more specific, and include:

_People older than 85.

_Those with severe trauma, which could include critical injuries from car crashes and shootings.

_Severely burned patients older than 60.

_Those with severe mental impairment, which could include advanced Alzheimer’s disease.

_Those with a severe chronic disease, such as advanced heart failure, lung disease or poorly controlled diabetes.

Dr. Kevin Yeskey, director of the preparedness and emergency operations office at the Department of Health and Human Services, was on the task force. He said the report would be among many the agency reviews as part of preparedness efforts.

Public health law expert Lawrence Gostin of Georgetown University called the report an important initiative but also “a political minefield and a legal minefield.”

The recommendations would probably violate federal laws against age discrimination and disability discrimination, said Gostin, who was not on the task force.

If followed to a tee, such rules could exclude care for the poorest, most disadvantaged citizens who suffer disproportionately from chronic disease and disability, he said. While health care rationing will be necessary in a mass disaster, “there are some real ethical concerns here.”

James Bentley, a senior vice president at American Hospital Association, said the report will give guidance to hospitals in shaping their own preparedness plans even if they don’t follow all the suggestions.

He said the proposals resemble a battlefield approach in which limited health care resources are reserved for those most likely to survive.

Bentley said it’s not the first time this type of approach has been recommended for a catastrophic pandemic, but that “this is the most detailed one I have seen from a professional group.”

While the notion of rationing health care is unpleasant, the report could help the public understand that it will be necessary, Bentley said.

Devereaux said compiling the list “was emotionally difficult for everyone.”

That’s partly because members believe it’s just a matter of time before such a health care disaster hits, she said.

“You never know,” Devereaux said. “SARS took a lot of folks by surprise. We didn’t even know it existed.”
