[Texas Governor] Perry Requests Antiviral Medications From CDC (for possible Swine Flu "Pandemic")
KWTX-TV ^ | April 25, 2009

Posted on 04/25/2009 1:09:10 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Gov. Rick Perry Saturday asked the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for 37,430 courses of antiviral medications from the Strategic National Stockpile as a precaution after three cases of swine flu were confirmed in Texas.

The medication will be available for treatment of those with confirmed or suspected cases of swine flu as well as for healthcare providers who may come into contact with the patients, Perry said.

All three of the Texas cases involved high school students from the same school in Guadalupe County.

The first two became ill in early April and on Thursday test results confirmed both had swine flu.

The third student became ill until this past week.

Lab results are pending, Perry said.

There is no apparent direct connection between the first two students and the third, Perry said.

All three have recovered, Perry said.

Also, a 10-year-old California boy traveled to the state through Dallas before he was diagnosed with the strain.

The Department of State Health Services, however, says other cases may have gone undiagnosed.

DSHS has contacted other students from the school since April 11 and has determined that eight students were absent because of flu-like illnesses.

"There is a reasonable chance that the current swine flu situation will not expand," DSHS Commissioner David Lakey said.

"However, we must take prudent steps to ensure the state is prepared if it does.

“In addition to the antiviral medications previously purchased by the state, these additional medications will be available for the state as appropriate to prevent further spread of the virus,” he said.

Symptoms of swine flu, which are similar to those of seasonal flu, include fever, fatigue, lack of appetite and coughing, and in some cases runny noses, sore throats, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

World Health Organization Director-General Margaret Chan says the outbreak involves "an animal strain of the H1N1 virus, and it has pandemic potential."

The CDC says two flu drugs, Tamiflu and Relenza, seem effective against the new strain.

Drug-maker Roche says the company is prepared to quickly deploy its drug stockpile if requested.

As many as 68 people may have died of swine flu in Mexico, although the strain has been confirmed in just 20 of the deaths.

More than a thousand others are sick.

Mexico City is suspending all public events for 10 days as officials try to contain the outbreak.

Yes. It’s in something like nine states now. One would think the US would restrict travel to Mexico like Guatemala and Colombia did, but apparently third world countires now have more sense than the world’s only superpower. Thanks a lot, 0bama.

Calderon has MX City’s Mayor shutting down schools until May 6, the day after Cinco de Mayo.

This is my new benchmark: if I hear anything about powering down 05 May here in Texas, that’s my worry benchmark.

Since they shut down a high school today about a hundred miles from here.

With so many illegals coming and going in my area, (SW of Houston), I share your concern.

FIRST! We could set up border clinics on their side if needed by Mexico but if this spreads our ERs will be overwhemed and staff and patients exposed.

Imagine you're in ICU and your doctor tells you you may want to yank out the drips and bug out while we're not looking, there's fixin to be a tsunami of Mexicans with coughs overwhelming this facility.

It seems the last few hours no new data.

My analysis is torn between some while-we-hide-the-sausage nothing-to-see-here and nobody, Repub or Rat letting a good crisis go to waste.

I've watched this site everyday for years and I've never seen anything bubble up so fast.

I don't know what to think, you?

I think if there is hay to be made from this, the politicians will jump on it. That said we have had epidemics from Mexico before. They come across for medical care. Usually they have tried to treat what is ailing them and by the time they come to the ERs they are really ill. PC inaction is our biggest treat right now IMO. Our borders need to be closed yesterday until this is under control.

Every nation in Asia is checking the temperature of every passenger from North America. If they have fever and flu like symptoms you can be they will be quarantined.

What do we do? “Welcome to the USA. Enjoy your stay!”

“time to move to Australia.”

WOW, I sure am glad that George Washington, T. Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Samuel Adams, etc. didn’t feel that way. They stayed and fought which is what we should do.

“This only problem will be figuring out how this is Bush’s fault.”

Well, let’s just be honest. If he woulda closed the borders like we begged him to.....so yes, he bares some blame for this in all reality.

It’s just a matter of time — two three days I’ll bet — when this shows up in Houston.

Since Rahm ‘doesn’t let a good crisis go to waste’......PERFECT time to declare Martial Law. Wouldn’t put it past this ‘administration’.

>>he won’t take any crap from the federal government<<

Don't be fooled by Rick Perry's recent tough talk.

Perry is positioning early for his 2010 gubernatorial primary run against another globalist (of the Warshington variety), Kay Baily Hutchison.

He is a big government globalist to the bone.

He supports amnesty, supports the Mexican trucker program, BIG supporter, if not the chief supporter of the Trans-Texas Corridor, has done nothing to secure the borders.

Don’t worry..I’m not. However..I will not be voting for KBH. She might be worse after being tainted by DC for so many years.

You bet’cha.

I just don't trust Perry.

A few days ago I was watching a clip of Rick Perry at the “super secret” Bilderburg meeting in Turkey under heavy guard a while back.

The wisdom of the report was that Rick Perry would be groomed for a run on the national stage.

Now, Bilderburg group. Secretive, their minutes and attendance is not published. The media will not cover the story.

There are hundreds of wealthy, government, media, corporate elites who attend and nothing regarding the meetings agenda is ever published in the main stream media.

I keep asking myself.....why? What's the purpose? What's the goal?

Are they discussing policy? If so, should there not be transparency?

Anyhow, Perry was an attendee.....caught on video entering the event along with people like Henry Kissinger, Rockefeller, Clinton and so forth.

That just bugs me. Check it out.
