5.8 is something to worry about in the parts of Mexico City that sit on landfill in the lake ~ or those parts sitting on unconsolidated volcanic ash.
In fact, this could be a precursor of the nearby volcano firing up!
They apparantly are not going to make it to 2012!

5.8 not catastrophe. Most people don’t realize the Richter scale is logarithmic: A 5.8 is 10 times less bad than a 6.8, for instance.

Sounds scary with that many people in one place but depends on depth, type of shaking & how well the structures handle it... prayers for all those in Mexico City.
