it’s not exactly a loss to hire someone who’s still getting acquainted with the English language.

Is your loyalty higher to your employer or to your nation? Are you an American or someone without a country? You are changing America in the direction of becoming a third world country, for a few pieces of silver. I don't understand the "citizen of the world" new tradition, why it caught on so fast and went so far. It's completely against human nature to sell out your own tribe. Most people that would have done this should have been killed off or ejected from their tribe long ago.

You'd think America would have learned a lesson by now: It's better long term to invent an automatic cotton gin or lettuce picker than it is to import cheap immigrant labor.

The United States as we know it today was *built* on cheap immigrant labor, if you'll remember correctly. Railroads, telegraph systems, factories, all the things that enabled America to enter a period of global dominance were at least partially due to the fact that there was a high supply of cheap, easily replaceable immigrant labor. This is just a continuation of a trend that's been going on since time immemorial. In fact, you could say that this movement is as American as you can get: it's the free market in action. Driving down production costs is one way a company can compete, and I'd be an idiot to say that a company is going to pass up that opportunity.

This whole thing is being blown out of proportion anyway. People have been running around with their hair on fire about this since there have been immigrants. I'm an engineering student. Many of my friends are engineering students, or already in various industries. If, in our collective experience, there is not a mass exodus of engineering jobs to other countries, it's probably not happening.

Let's see ... As an engineer am I benefitted more by having the wages of Indian engineers rise by 50% or by having the wages of the UAW rise by 50%?

I don't recall seeing any benefit to me of the UAW wages rising to $70 per hour. But as Indian engineering salaries rise, the outsourcing of engineering jobs will decline.

MY tribe consists of intelligent, educated people who rely on their merits to improve themselves and who do not view collectivism as a benefit of any kind.
