How, pray tell, is it that 7 of the current 9 Supreme Court Justices were nominated by Republican Presidents, yet routinely the votes come out 5-4?

Need help with my maths.

Look for the ‘Rats to start pushing to get Al Franken seated.

"Seated" might be an improvement.

Hillary to SCOTUS?

Kicking her upstairs and out of the way would be convenient for a lot of people.

The nominee will be as young as reasonably possible, bought off before we even know who he/she is, confirmed by the Demo Senate and possibly serve until my kids are 50.

So not good at all.

First name comes to mind as replacement is Arlen Spector. Bama would not then be obligated to campaign for him.

"A huge mistake by the elder Bush. Souter is the result when politics trumps competence."

IMO, the worst mistake by Bush. The man had no track record and Bush wanted an "easy" confirmation. Souter in his first term was good but then turned far left. Even if he was a liberal to begin with, its surprising he would go so far to the left. During his confirmation, it was the NOW gang, NARAL, ACLU and other leftist groups who were against his nomination. He did not pass unanimously due to liberal senators voting no. I remember Rush Limbaugh going to great lengths defending the man.

Elections matter. People need to learn that. But alas even many on this site hated McCain so much ( I am no fan) the election was practically over before it begain. ELECTIONS MATTER. Liberals KNOW the USSC MATTERS. How do you think they get their agenda accepted and legalized? Through the COURTS. Everthing gained is through the COURTS. Unfortunately the Dems are better at politics cause it is the MEANING of their lives and world view.

Question.
Suppose Obama does appoint 2 or 3 Supreme Court justices and then it is found that he wasn’t eligible to be President. Does that kick out any of his appointments?

Zero really can’t do any damage replacing Souter. How much worse could any appointment by that scumbag be?

"Gang of 14, please pick up the white courtesy phone.

No, those guys only apply to Republican appointees. Whomever Barry picks will walk through the confirmation process.

This is likely to be Obama’s first selection of what will probably be 2-3 total SCOTUS appointees before 2012.
