Never much of a fan of Souter...but I fear the replacement will be worse. Slick Willie gave us Ginsburg, and he was worried about maintaining a “moderate” image. 0bama has shown no concern about anything but his own agenda.

I hope I’m wrong, but I’m thinking a giant judicial BOHICA is a’comin’.

I tend to be an optomist. I don’t think we can get anyone much more liberal than Souter wound up being. In the history of the supreme court many appointments have been rather surprising - many republican appointees became much more liberal. Historically there have been some liberals that became more moderate - so I would have to say that it is time for a Dem pick to wind up being the equivalent of Republican Souter or Kennedy pick - a liberal that moves center-right. There is a chance, especially since justices in general see themselves as a counter balance to the executive and legislative branches - which have obviously tilted heavily left. Keep the faith and keep fighting.
