Jacobson believes the most likely Republican to help Democrats on the committee is South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, who was one of the Gang of 14, a group of seven Democrats and seven Republicans who averted a showdown on President Bush's judicial nominees in 2005.

Ping!

Very interesting. Too bad this won’t really block leftists from being nominated and appointed to SCOTUS.

unless the Democrats are going to change the rules of the committee midstream

Haven't they done that in the House already? No big deal to them.

That's because the Judiciary Committee, where Specter was the ranking minority member, requires the consent of at least one Republican to end debate and move a nominee to the full Senate for a vote.

How delicious!

But, you are right, the Dems will just change the rule.

The title of this piece is RIGHT ON.

In Spector’s hopefully failed effort to preserve his sinecure in the Senate House, he may have done more good than harm to the GOP. He never would have supported a filibuster any more than his two RINO colleagues - Collins and Snowe.

Little Lindsley is right up there with McCain, Spector, Snowe and Collins in the rogue’s gallery of Democratophilic Republicans.

Graham, Snowe, Collins, McCain (and a few others....) all need to jump ship...

we need to start with a clean slate.

Lindsey Graham will gladly vote for a big-government SCJ nominee. Throw on some La Raza spices and he will even include a 100% free supporting address in Congress!

I just wanted to take this opportunity to express my profound disappointment in Justice Souter, and to wish him a speedy retirement and an eternity in H-E-double-hockey-sticks.

If Senate rules impede Obama’s liberal agenda or endanger a SCOTUS nominee, Rahm Emanuel wil tell you, changing the rules is the order of the day.

This just arrived in my email in-box from the uber liberal "People for the American Way".

Partial

Supreme Court Justice David Souter has announced that he will retire at the end of the Court's current term.

In filling the vacancy he will leave, President Obama has the opportunity to nominate someone who is committed to core constitutional values: justice, equality and opportunity for all… someone who is faithful to the Constitution, its values, its principles and its history.

That means WE must be diligent. The progressive agenda for the term of this administration and the next several decades depends on having a Supreme Court that will not block progress. The Right Wing knows this and will do all it can to prevent change on the Court.

Sign the letter to President Obama urging him to be bold in his nomination to fill Souter's Supreme Court seat.

Here are the Judicairy Committe members in order of senority: Hatch, Grassley, Kyle, Sessions, Graham, Cornyn and Coburn. I can think of a number of committee members who would be a better choice than Grahmnesty. Can you imagine the reaction in the Dems and MSM to Cornyn or Coburn were chosen. That's kind of a nuclear option on the committee but knowing the DemoRats they'll change the Senate rules to get what they want. They have the numbers to do what they want if they are willing to change the rules.

Any committee with Charles Grassley and Lindsey Graham on it is not hurting for moderates.
