The left will not buy Romney's GOP rebranding. They demand total capitulation!

The Need to Hold the GOP Accountable

By Robert Parry May 5, 2009

http://www.consortiumnews.com/2009/050509.html

Excerpts:

Perhaps it was the image of Jeb Bush expounding on the future of the Republican Party or Condoleezza Rice channeling her inner Richard Nixon with the imperial logic that “by definition, if it was authorized by the President, it did not violate our obligations under the Convention Against Torture.”

But what is increasingly clear is that the modern Republican Party – with its unwillingness to face up to its responsibility for many of today’s calamities and the crimes of its leaders – has become a clear and present danger to the founding principles of the United States, and to the nation’s security.

The issue is not “rebranding” – as the mainstream news media endlessly says – but accountability. The concern should be more about the Republican past than its future or, put differently, whether the GOP deserves a future considering what it has done in the recent past.

~~snip~~

The only accountability may come if most Americans turn their back on the reckless Republicans, perhaps opening space for the emergence of a new political party, one that may represent classic conservative positions without the overlay of right-wing economic extremism, religious fundamentalism and monarchical attitudes about presidential power.

Perhaps such a replacement for the Republican Party might come to respect and defend the Republic.

Good to hear. I have been doing the same thing on FR and in my home county. I push conservatives to get involved in their local GOP.

The whole reason we are in this mess is because we didn't remain involved in the GOP and allowed the RINOs to take over. Unfortunately, there are still too many conservatives who rather sit on the sidelines or waste time we don't have in the creation of a doomed third party. You would think that the Obama presidency would be enough of motivator, but they still refuse to get involved politically. I just do not understand this mindset of capitulation to RINOs and Dems.

And another Romney RINO sycophant chimes in.

Instead of calling me names, tell me what you disageed with in what I wrote.
What I wrote was not directed at you. It was directed to those who react negatively to those who are trying to reach out, assuming it means capitulation rather that trying to convert others to the cause.
I will have to hear more before I jump to that conclusion.

People were making the same assurances about McCain in the last election. That didn’t turn out so well. As long as the primary rules in certain states allow cross party voting, RINOs will always have a good chance of winning. That is why it should be conservatives’ main priority to change these rules and not allow Dems to choose our candidate for us.

The only rebranding we need involves dumping big government RINOs (like Romney) and big government RINO causes! What this situation calls for is MORE TEA!!

Rebellion is brewing!!

Reaching out by those clowns is nothing more than boob bait for the bubbas.

With what, spit wads?

The entire political system has failed. ACORN will do no less damage next time.

I see no great leaders standing up to fight this mess.

I see no justice being brought to the likes of Dodd and others for stealing over half of my wife’s retirement investments, causing her to now have to work ten years longer so that the Obama can give my money to the lazy fatass lowlifes that put him in office.

Our treasures and the treasures of unborn generations are
being committed to the reckless and selfish desires of those in power.

Even the right to protect ourselves and our own families is on shaky ground.

They work daily to silence us with stupid hate crime laws and rebirthing the fairness doctrine.

Even what they say was a flu that was pandemic couldn’t get them to even make a show attempt to close our borders.

They work to further intimidate us with show trials of those that worked to protect us.

The craven lickspittle Murtha continues to escape responsibility and consequences for what he did to our brave Troops, “in cold blood”.

The democrats vote for pedophiles to receive extra hate crime protections, while denying the same for our returning veterans—some of whom no longer possess all of their body parts.

It’s all about money and power and considering that we make up a small percentage of the population, we are soon to have neither.

I have killed field rats with my brush-hog that I had more respect for than I do for the politicians that contaminate our country today.

I could go on for hours, but I must close as we are having Wetback for dinner and it’s about ready.

I don’t know the right answer, but I have serious doubt that we can vote our way out of this one.

Presently, I am hanging on that the Tea Parties will make some difference, but I am not overly optimistic.

Millions of this generations Sons of Liberty may need to march on Washington before anything changes to the good.

Of the RINOs, Romney is the most dangerous bunch. He has money, organization, and executive experience.

Make no mistake, Romney is angling to run again in 2012 and he needs to be defeated.

Robert Parry broke many of the Iran-Contra stories in the 1980s for the Associated Press and Newsweek. His latest book, Neck Deep: The Disastrous Presidency of George W. Bush, was written with two of his sons, Sam and Nat, and can be ordered at neckdeepbook.com. His two previous books, Secrecy & Privilege: The Rise of the Bush Dynasty from Watergate to Iraq and Lost History: Contras, Cocaine, the Press & 'Project Truth' are also available there. Or go to Amazon.com.

This guy is not worth the time. Seems he's been on the extreme of anti-Republican and anti-Bush viewpoint at least back to Iran-Contra.

Do you advocate the creation a conservative third party?

Yes, and the follow-up ultimatum to the GOP should be:

Join or Die!!

Well I hope so. I wish we could flood Washington D.C. every time they try to vote on such things as TARP, amnesty, Fairness Doctrine, Bailouts, etc.
But I hope it is an intelligent rebellion of idess and not an angry rebellion of personal attacks.

Romnen needs to be defeated.

As I see it, people are making the same mistake they did last time. There was so much effort put on defeating Romney that McCain (the worst possible candidate) went around the frey and grabbed the prize.
Years went into the Obama preparation. Years need to go into preparing our candidate. We shouldn't waste time on useless activities.
Instead of worrying about Romney, pick who you want and contribute to the cause of that person.
Sarah has not said she is interested yet. If she is, she should be building a grass roots organization now. She should be having experts prepare position papers and briefings for her so when she comes face to face with Obama she will not have a repeat of the “Katie Curic moment.”
She should be building a donner data base. She should be giving speeches and racking up IOUs from people who could support her.
Jim says a revolution is coming. I hope so. It couldn't be soon enough or strong enough for me. I don't even want to say some of the things I would like to see done. If the trends keep going I see a revolution more like the first one.
I say, instead of thinking about destroying people, Let all who can and want to run prepare for the primary. Let the primary sort it out. And whoever wins, everyone support the winner. Anyone of the present possibilities would be better than Obama.
Oh well ... I am probably wasting my time.

The power the liberals have right now is like that of a paperboy with a big Sunday newspaper rubber band and wants to shoot his enemy. They have it stretched to the limit and when it breaks, and snaps back to hit them in the eye; they will be momentarily stunned and blind in one eye. But they will not change course.

The rubber band snapping will be the people reaching the tipping point from all the big government activities that are doomed to fail and disappoint.

That will be the moment when a conservative leader will have a chance to lead.

There must be no mention of a government solution of any kind. The problem will be that the government has over-reached. That must be the only mantra and chant. Big government is the problem. Big government is the problem. Big government is the problem.

No “I told you so”, just: “Now, let’s get government out of the way and get to work.”

Cut this overbearing, bloated government in half. Free the people to succeed. Cut income taxes. Reduce capitol gains taxes. Eliminate corporate taxes, so they have money to hire. Eliminate government ownership in companies, so competent management can take over. Poorly run companies must fail and the infrastructure can be bought by others who can hire, manage better, and succeed. Unions must rethink their roll in the success of the United States of America. Eliminate the Dept of education and return authority for schooling to the States. And so on, to a million more reductions in government intervention.

Conservatives, be ready.

I haven’t been able to think of any other pleasant scenarios that can end this.

There already IS a conservative party.

The problem is, the conservatives need to be elected.

Ironically, however, many of the candidates that I’ve seen with the conservative endorsement, are Republicans who turn out to not be all that conservative after all.
