Bardem is too gloomy, and not attractive enough.
Kahn is an elitist self-styled aristocrat with superior genes. That’s why Montalban was so good, he had that ‘corinthian leather’ air about him, but could get down and dirty.
Banderas may be too old though. Kahn is older than Kirk, but not by too much.

No worries.. this is the La La movie universe where Star Fleet instructor Spock is having an affair with his cadet Uhura, and Chekov who is 15 years younger than Kirk magically transformed to being only 5 years younger.

Star Trek 2.0 II: Search for Some Goatees.

In the new prequel sequel, the entire crew (including Uhura) grow beards just to mess with the fanboys.

Actually, Kahn is a couple of hundred years old. He's just well-preserved... /g

In that case, see the fellow in post 20, above. BTW, wasn’t that guy the ARVN officer in “The Green Berets.”?

The guy doing The Most Interesting Man In The World for the Dos Equis commercials could probably do Khan. Of course they simply can’t do Khan in the second movie, that would just be too strong a parallel to the old stuff, and we’d start making jokes about how there’s going to be a whale in 4.

He was small, but he kicked butt!* *1000 kg (2200 lbs) and 1 meter (40 in.) long

Um, since Knan is Indian, how about they find an Indian actor instead of Spanish?

That would help break the comparisons with the original a bit.

One problem with casting a new Khan...Quien es mas macho, el actor nuevo or RICARDO MONTALBAN??!!

I suggest that they select a person of great self-importance and even greater arrogance... after he leaves office... Barack Hussein Obama. The movie can open next year in January.

In this new future, Sulu will be gay, Kirk will do Priceline.Com commercials, and Nimoy will do a TV series called “In Search Of...”

LOL true

I don’t really want to see all the old stuff redone with new actors.
They need to write new adventures, new bad guys. If every now and then an previous character appears in some sort of twist of fate that could be cool though.

I can see bringing some in, there’s some good villains in the Trek universe, but they need to avoid starting a pattern. Couldn’t really help having certain mirrors between the current movie and the first, both had to be “assemble the crew” pictures. But the second really needs to strike out into its own territory, then maybe with the third or fourth you can grab something from the past like Khan or mobster world (probably my all time favorite episode, and it could make a good movie if done right). But they need to make sure it’s no more than every other and preferably every 3rd movie.
